Do you know the model of the Synology NAS? There are a lot of NAS out there that do not support SMB file transfer.

I think I've only had 1 customer in the past that was using a NAS (and I admittedly know very little about them). They've since switched exclusively to scan to email, following a hack. But at the time, the setup was no different than windows as I recall.
Could be a firmware issue with that old box?

I've only seen NetApp's but I found that they had higher levels of SMB protocols than most older devices support.

Then there is the issue of what and where your credentials are (local to NAS or sync'd to Active Directory)

Wireshark capture would tell the tale.

Likely the NAS has SMB1 disabled. Pretty sure SMB2/3 support was only available from the 4002/5002 series and newer.

Scanning to email may be a better option than enabling a feature that has no valid reason to exist in 2022.

I had a customer whose IT sold them a NAS and they wanted to scan to it but couldn't. I looked up the make and model and found out that it was the lowest priced model that manufacturer sold. The primary purpose was for use as an off line backup and could only be written to from a computer with their driver installed. The next model up supported SMB.
