There were a few instances where we supplied code or a third-party software to "get the deal" on some high dollar accounts. What it cost in our time and effort was chicken feed compared to the amount of profit we were seeing, so it was negligible. That part really didn't matter much, though, when things stopped working, and it was a mad scramble to get them up and running again.

One shining exception: I did have one major account where their AS400 output was not playing nice with the new Ricoh MFPs we installed, and it was due to some outdated code in their AS400 files which had been written years earlier, and could not feasibly be changed.

I found some well-known software that corrected the output between the AS400 and the printers, and the new machines all printed happily ever after.

We had them buy the software directly from the vendor, and it was understood, in writing, that we were out of the loop for support on the product.

We didn't make anything on that part of the contract, but it helped us further solidify a healthy long-standing relationship with a highly valued customer. Win win, as the saying goes.

Understood and that's what I was thinking. If it was a "sweetener" to land a major account, yeah, I'm with you. But if it's a small account, there's no way that I would support a piece of software without charging for it.

I proposed that he do a multi-send Scan to 2 addresses, (1) SMB to the folder and (2)FTP to the desired printer.

IDK about Ricoh, but a Kyocera with FTP on will receive and print PDF's sent via this protocol.

The added benefit is even if you are scanning on a BW device, it usually has a color scanner. So you can scan in color there and send to a color printer for your 'printed copy' in color on any device supporting the FTP receive method.

I like that approach, and AFAIK, FTP print should work with Ricoh machines.

One issue is that a lot of companies are disallowing FTP on their networks as it is seen as a security risk. I don't think many if any MFPs can scan over SFTP.

I know it may sound trivial, but another (somewhat smaller) issue is that the user would need to scan twice. I'm not aware of any Ricoh machine that can combine the two scans (but I'm not 100% sure on that).

BTW...I've heard no mention of what Ricoh model(s) is/are in play here?

If it's one where all we manage are their printers/MFP's then it's usually better to go with a third-party solution that their IT staff can directly manage and have access to a support staff.

I've been caught in several situations where scripts floated around that were created by previous staff members that worked until they didn't, and then it became an adventure either trying to decipher the poor code they did on the script, or to find out that it hadn't been doing what it was supposed to for years because it referenced a specific machine, user account, or other process that no longer existed. I even had one case where the script was set up to still output even if there were errors so the client had close to a year's worth of empty output files!
i can easily confirm that this is the case with MANY Scripts and programs still floating around made by people who retired long ago. I might take a deeper look into this stuff and maybe come up with a cool Programm.

Sometimes, the copier guy's role is just to give a customer their options and leave the headache of managing it to someone else. In this case, it seems likely that a financial firm is going to have an IT vendor of some kind. If they don't I wouldn't let them touch my information as there's a pile of compliance requirements for them. Let their internal IT deal with the configuration and just let the OP deal with the traditional first look to confirm connectivity. If the problem lives on the other side of the wire it can be someone else's hassle.

I went with the sales team for a meeting with the client to understand fully what their requirements are. Turns out they were using foldermill as well with xerox machines (cant remember the model). We are planning to position IM2702 with all trays loaded as what the customer wants. I guess I won't have to worry about this anymore since the client themselves will have to manage it and only requires us to test if it works with our machines.

anyways, thanks for your suggestions. glad to be part of this community

Client requires a configuration where all scanned documents to a folder is automatically printed.
Can I do this on a RICOH device? Or a third party software is required.

                    Thanks for your patience.
There are several ways to do this.
One way could be writing your own PowerShell scripts but our company uses third party software for it. We have multiple tools from Winking/Ricoh.

FileProcessor if you just need to monitor one or multiple locations. You create 'channels' and each channel can monitor one folder/ftp/mailbox/whatever...

I just took a new screenshot of the input side:

                    fp-input.jpg

and here is the output side:
                    fp-output.jpg

it has also options to schedule, filter and convert.

The other product Print&Share CQ also has folder monitoring, go this option if you want to do extra's with your documents for printing.
