    Android player in car

this isn't about printers, but I'm hoping someone will be able to answer

I've just installed an Android 10/12 player, into my car, it was listed as Android 10, but says Android 12 on the screen. it has google maps and "here" . I'm trying to download the maps I need for offline use, but can only do it over WiFi, I can't get close enough to my WiFi for it to get a decent connection, this is with an extender. I'm wondering about using a WiFi dongle, but not entirely sure how it works.

Do I have to plug the dongle into the USB port of my player, or does it pick up and connect to a WiFi signal on the dongle. Also, how good are they.

This probably sounds like a stupid question - but I'm pants at things like that

Can't you use your phone as a mobile hotspot and connect to that.
Do you have a link for it.

The problem with a dongle is you can't be certain that the player even has the necessary drivers to recognise what it is. More than likely the USB ports are only going to have media drivers to mount a USB for music or other files.

You might be able to sync the files you need over Bluetooth or even load them onto a USB and have it import them.

If it originally shipped with Android 10 and was later updated to 12 I'm rather impressed: most of those things never see an update at all.

A link to the product would be helpful indeed.

I use AndroidAuto wireless in my car's infotainment, works lika a charm.

Just double checked, it says its an Android 11 on the listing, but when I turn it on, it says Android 12, I thought about the USB route, but there doesn't seem to be a way to download them. I might get an extension lead, and see if I can move my extender closer to where my car is, and try WiFi again

It sounds more like what you really want to do is use it as an entertainment console for your vehicle

It works fine as an entertainment console, I'm trying to download the maps - so I can use them when I travel, to help me with directions

Wouldn't Google maps on an Android phone work better? That is what taxi and delivery services here in the US.

Yes use Google maps, you can download map for offline use if there is no mobile coverage in that area just go hotspot route as skynet suggested it should work.

i would, if i didn't have to pay roaming charges in Europe...

Got it sorted last night, plugged my WiFi extender into an extension lead, and stuck it next to my car

That explains a lot. Either place the items could be knock offs.

Those wifi extenders ALWAYS come in clutch for those types of things. Their horrible for their intended purpose of extending wifi but great for single device uses.
