    Print Monitoring Software

    Good afternoon, guys and gals.

Any decent (preferably free or opensource) printer monitoring software? I was thinking something along the lines of the old Ricoh Smardevicemonitor for admin, but brand-agnostic - nothing too fancy, I just would like to keep an eye on a list of printers and check if any of them has any errors or warnings (jam, toner end or near end, etc).

    Thanks.

    Re: Print Monitoring Software

Plenty of SNMP monitoring systems available. The main issue is that many manufacturers use either different values for toner levels or other status reports, and frequently use private values that aren't part of the standard SNMP OIDs.

I use a monitoring server to track printers, servers, and even network devices but it would be complete overkill for just printers and requires a dedicated system and a good deal of configuration.

If you still have SmartDevice Monitor for Admin floating around, it will pull generic data from other printers. I used to use it to get basic information from Ricoh and HP equipment years ago when I was dedicated to a single site.

We are Brother partners and BRAdmin 4 is what i use daily to monitor and configure hundreds of MFPs and it's freaking awesome. Plus free. Plus it will work with other brands with some minor limitations. Highly recommended.

Tough to find anything these days as a lot of companies are snapped up by ECI. I haven't encountered anything free that works beyond one location, or is a tie with whatever MFP we are a dealer for.

Absolutely agree. ECI snapped up PrintFleet and FM audit and sell their combo product something called Printanista.

Yes we've had a look at this product and it is considerably less messy than print audit which we are currently using.

Honestly, we are using the embedded ones from Canon and Epson currently. Everything else is going through print audit and it is an absolute pain in the ass chasing disconnects.

Our primary product line is Konica, but for some reason the dealer refuses to use vcare which I assume would be considerably less janky than print audit.
