You said 1 scan goes threw, but none afterwards. If you restart the copier you can then scan 1 time before it gets stuck.
The IT guy said it started when they switch ISP's from DSL to CABLE. Make sure your subnet and gateway are correct. Do an IPCONFIG /all on a workstation and make sure he did not change anything like subnet, gateway, etc. Most likely you will find these have changed by at least 1 number if this is actually the cause like he said.
SMB is a non routable protocol, so it does not go threw routers.
You might have your machine set to the wrong OS type. Don't know that make\model but do you have an NTLM setting like V1,V2, mixed? The reason I mention this is because it will work 1 out of about 5 attempts when set incorrectly usually.
So, based on the IT response, I would guess that the answer will be found when you go to a workstation and run IPCONFIG /all to see what is different for the network compared to what is in the copier. It could be justr 1 number, so read them instead of just thinking the subnet is 255.255.255.0, it might be 255.255.252.0 for example.
