    SMB scanning/mental block

    I'm setting up a Samsung for SMB scanning via a crossover. The web interface is asking for IP or hostname (easy enough), and server share name? What's that supposed to be? The laptop is technically the SMB server, but it has no share name that I'm aware of. Do I need to set up a share name of some sort?

    Or is the scanner looking for some separate SMB server? It won't let me leave the "share name" blank.

    Can anyone help me over this mental block?

      OK, so I'm an idiot.

      The first occurrence of Share Name is supposed to be the scan folder's share name. I don't know what the Scan Share Folder is supposed to be. It works with that line blank.
      Come on Samsung, clean this up! Very confusing!

          I don't work on Samsung but I assume it's the name of the folder you create (the one you want to scan to) on the laptop and then SHARE on the network.

              look at where the customer wants the file to go
              right click on that folder and goto the sharing tab.
              share the folder and see what name it gives it or type one in that is easy to remember and input this into the machine.
              I forgot that and was trying to input the full path (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\scans) when all I needed was "\scans" with the correct ip address in the other box.
              And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

                  You would be amazed that SMB Scanning has not been the norm for most manufacturers in the past years. Hince it doesn't surprise me that the Samsung your working on makes it more complicated than it should be. Creating a river to run a stream... been there done that! I feel your pain.

                  Spock is right, as he always is (even in the movies), so follow his lead and you'll he fine.

                      Thanks and us EX service agents for the crumbling X have to stick to getherer!!

                      Also on the Konica Bizhub equipment all the books and setup guides tell you to browse the network from the machine using the "browse" button. This is correct with the exception that the button on the machine is labeled "reference".

                          SMB is by far, the easiest to set up on the fly. Small offices often do not have have their own SMTP, and I can rarely get remote SMTPs to work. I don't have the skills or the time. Kyocera's FTP Utility works well in most situations, but if the customer needs to be continually adding or deleting destinations it requires more setup, and the customers frequently miss setup steps and get frustrated.

This is where I have trouble with MAC SMB setups. It seems to take a lot of fiddling to get the path just right, depending on which OS you have. And the manuals only give the most general instruction. =^..^=
