    Printer port

Something I haven't seen before is a printer port set up as "\\ pcname \ printername" . and not the
ip address . This was on a pc with just 1 user who logged on with no admin permissions. The pc name being this pc with no permissions. I couldn't load the driver on this pc because it didn't have permissions and I couldn't find where the above driver was loaded from. I was told there is no server only 2 other pcs one being the owners pc with all the drivers loaded on locally and not shared and no other person on the network can see anything on his PC but he can browse folders on the other pcs. I tried loading the driver on his PC and sharing it but I still wasn't able to find the driver from the clients PC using the run " \\ owners pc ip address " for anything shared and also browsing the network when trying to add the driver from the client pc. I hope this makes sense but not much experience on the Networking side. I'm Thinking there must be a server or other pc somewhere with the drivers on but told there isn't.???? I'm just looking for any ideas as the Boss usually pays an independant IT guy to sort out any jobs we can't finish.

I think the permissions that would be inheirited with that account would be that of an admin. You could easily solve the issue of where the machine is that is sharing that printer is by determining if the bosses computer has the name that the port you are seeing is on. Cool name BTW.

Thats a SMB port. The copier advertises itself on the network as a print server (\\pc name) with a shared printer (\printername). The drivers were probably loaded locally (from cd-rom), although some Fiery's will have the driver on them. Used to be common back in the days of Win98, which didn't have native TCP/IP port.

Most likely this PC is occasionally connected to a network server or PC that has a shared printer. This is the most common way to share a printer from another server or PC. When you're trying to set up a share (shared printer) like this, you can click Add A Printer, select Network Printer or Shared Printer on another PC. You'll be asked to map a path to the printer: \\PChostname\PrinterShareName . You're done.

If you're just printing to one MFP or printer, are you using USB or TCP/IP? In either case, if you're not sharing out the printer you won't need to use this path description. Just load the drivers normally. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
