scan to email

I want to set up scan to email.
With the same machine(ricoh 2045e), i suceeded to set up scan to email in one office but failed
in the other office.
In both office, the printer drivers were sucessfully set up.
I checked the network information in both office.
The first office default gaetway 192.168.1.1
dns : 192.168.1.88

the second one default gateway 192.168.1.254
dns 192.168.1.254

the smtp servers for scan to email are the same for both offices.

A certain guy said the reason the second one can not use scan to email is that default gateway and dns
address are the same, he told me that it is wrong.
I checked the network information using their computers and it showed just like that.

Do you think the reason for failure is due to the same address for default gateway and dns.
or there are other reasons.

In both office, the internet connection is fine.

Ping the mail server to get the IP address then use it instead of the hostname. This will eliminate the need for DNS.
