scan to email testing with wireshark and bizhub

I have a server.... hooked up to bizhub copier...

    scan to email works perfectly...

I just wish to learn how to test it via wireshark

here is the deal... I have hooked up my laptop via... hub between the server and the copier...

if I route the main signal through the hubs uplink I get a variety of signals but I am unable to actually find what I want which is this tcp stream with the copiers communication...

If I route the main signal through one of the other lines... I get arp communication only...

I would appreciate any help on the matter...

I have a trendnet switch if that makes a difference...

and a hub so old I cann't find an internet listing for it...

if wireshark is too much for this... please recommend another packet sniffer and provide instructions on how to use it for testing scan to email between copier and server...

Make sure you are using a HUB and not a SWITCH when you want to capture data, a switch creates what amounts to a direct connection and Wireshark can't see the data passing from MFP to SMTP server. A HUB broadcasts everything to all physical ports so that a packet sniffer can grab the data.

Connect data line from client network to the hub, laptop to hub and MFP to hub. Choose the correct interface in Wireshark, and dependant on OS you may need to run it as administrator.
