Recommended Email account for Scan to Email?

So I was thinking about this scan to email issue that has been presented to me. Most of the Sharp customers in this area use the same ISP. We had setup scanning to the ISP using the IP of the SMTP server. Well they changed the SMTP Server IP, but not it's name. So in trying to avoid DNS issues the IT person created a big fat problem. Not too hard to rectify, but still work lol.

Sooooo Is there a public Email service people recommend that is works with most. I know that some of the copiers don't support SSL on PORT and Server, just the server if I recall.

I've looked at GMX and Gmail. Gmail seems to be more picky? Am I right?
Also any recommeneded DNS settings. I did search these forums some, but no one is leaning towards one in particular. FYI. We are in the US if that helps.

I have used GMX insome cases and it seems to be working just fine. Create an account and then test it at your shop, smtp.gmx.com, port 25 and authentication.

Gmail can be very picky. The SMTP server name has to be entered as: aspmx.l.google.com, using Port 25 and authentication.

You can ping both of these to get an IP address.

At your customers just do ipconfig /all from a DOS prompt to get their DNS server info.

      I use either Googles DNS 8.8.8.8 or Open DNS 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220
I've had some ISP's that won't allow you to relay other SMTP accounts. Have you seen this with ISP's blocking GMX SMTP messages ?
I have an account that I'd like to try it at. They use ATT/SBCGlobal/Yahoo and the machine doesn't support SSL.
      Hope that helps !

That is good info to have guys.

Tmaged have you tried the old SBC GOBAL Settings? I found this on this site earlier this year and they worked for me. these settings don't use the SSL the new servers require.

            Ssl issues

There are a few free email services that do not require encryption. I will look and repost, but there are also alternatives with mfp copiers that do not allow ssl. This is not just a simple fix though.
Alternative SMTP option for use by SSL deprived network devices? - Google Apps Help

With a Toshiba e350 it doesn't allow ssl. Yahoo bizmail works but it has to be setup a bit different. Usually I only use the smtp client section, but yahoo bizmail will work enabling smtp server and filling in the email address. It does require authentication (login) and port 465

Agree emailmnot requiring ssl is inbox.com. The specific setting are a but hard to find but it works. Also, you must activate the account and enable smtp forwarding.

Hey good information there guys, that's the stuff great Tech's are made of....

[The brain drops into gear here.....]
I'm going to set up a free scan to google email account for testing customers machines.
Setup scan to email first on a google test account so you can check with the results straight up, then change over to the customers machine and server settings.

This is also a great account to send any problem test copies or SMC reports for later checking. Saves carrying heaps of papers around in my folder all day too. I'm not fussed on the idea of scanning my work back to my workserver.

                Thanks for the great tips...

I would just plug in dns though. Aol frequently changes ip as do others. I only use the name if it fails due to amtimeout issue. I really avoid using the ip at all costs. As a test account I keep google, yahoo, and inbox. With test accounts you can demonstrate to the customer the copiers not the issue.
