    Using Ricoh's Scanrouter

Is it possible to use a Ricoh MFP like the 1224C as a scanner to a computer that is NOT a delivery server? I'm trying to set up a shared scan folder on a computer running windows XP Pro in a single computer setting (no server involved). Can I make this work?

The 1224c does not support scan to folder without using a delivery server but it can do scan to email.

Okay, so scan to email, how do I set that up? Wouldn't the ricoh need an outbouse smtp address?

Unfortunatly, there is no option for SMTP, only for delivery server. Can I configure my laptop to be a delivery server? I have downloaded V2 Lite, V2 Professional and the appropriate admin programs that go with them. Would one of them work?

By the way, thanks for responding... I have been searching for an answer all day!

Just use the IP address of the computer you want to put the folder on. That is your delivery server.

Just create the folder that you want to scan to, on the PC, and share it. Then, input the ip address of that computer in the delivery server section of the User Tools. Then, when you touch the scan button and connection is refreshed, you should see that folder you just created.

What I have done in a few cases, is create single sharder folder on the PC of your choice (which will be the delivery server). Then, inside that folder, create other folders for others users in the office. At the other users PC, create a short cut to their folder on the delivery server, using My Network Places. At this point, when you enter the scanner screen, you will see each of the folders that you just created on the delivery server for each of the users. Then, each user can select their folder from the scan screen on the MFP and scan to that folder, go to their desk and there it is.

Now, there is a big catch here! The PC that you want to set as the Delivery Server has to have a Username and Password log-in (at boot-up) for this stuff to work.

            Hope this helps.

              scan to email

hi just a footnote to add. it would be easier to set this up as scan to email, but on this particular model it isnt under file transfer, you have to log into the web browser of the machine as the administrator and then under email transmission is where you put the smtp server address!

OKay, not to sound like an idiot, but how do I log into the web browser of the machine? Wouldn't I need to know the accessable ip address of the machine, or is there a generic ip, user name and password?

                Thanks!

okay, so i logged on using the printer's IP address in my web browser and got into the configuration. I created a new Email address for the ,achine and plugged it all into the admin tool online. Once I hit apply, it started up the machine as if it were updating it. However, no other option appear on the machine and it still does not give me the option for SMTP as the output.

When I am in scanner mode and select a destination (which is an email address) and put paper in the feeder, the green Start button does not come on. I am still not able to send anything out - ugh!

                    scan to email

ok you need to go into user tools on the machine and think its in scanner features you need to find a tab that says senders name default and put to yes, then the green button should light up. what ip address did you put on the web browser for the smtp server address. are you using exchange server?

okay, so that got the light to turn green - now it says it cannot find my smtp server. my SMTP outgoing is mail.azpmf.com - that is what I use for email, it should be what I type in the settings, correct?

Well alright!!! I got it to work for scanning to email (the easier route) however, when I send large files (like 60 pages or so) they come as a jumble of text in the email, not a .pdf as I have told the machine - or like they come when I send 1 page or so.

I will keep trying the document server route as well. The issue that I come across there is, while I have created a shared folder called "scans" on my computer, I cannot get the admin program to recognize that as a document server. What I do is type in \\192.168.0.5\scans but the admin utility tries for a few moments and then comes back and says can't connect retry or cancel... oh boy!

Your first issue is most likely memory related. There is a way to maximize the scan to e-mail size. Can't remember off the top of my head, so maybe someone else can jump in here and help you out.

As for your other issue with Scan Router... Yeah, I have run into this. Believe it or not, they way you fix this is not installing the Admin utility, which is most likely what you installed. Just install the Lite version and you will be set. This one kicked my butt for quite a few hours one day. Just uninstall the Admin Utility and install the ScanRouter Lite V2. From there, when you enter the IP address as before, it will work fine.

OKay now that seemed to work, I have created a delivery server on my machine and have a scans folder. Now, how do I tell my Ricoh that it exists? It did not update automatically. The only time it does that is when I change settings from the ip based tool (you know, by logging in through internet explorer). Where/how do I tell this machine where to send the files to.

                            Thanks!

                              scan to email

i think you will find the scan to email feature easier to use. the problem you are having with large files can be sorted easily by going into scanner features, send settings and turn max email size off.
