Toshiba eStudio202L hard drive connectivity problem with Windows 7

Hi, I have a Toshiba estudio 202L multi-function printer in my small office
for my biz. We had an IT guy setup 5 computers (Windows XP) with an icon to
access the hard drive (file_share) on it back in 2007. Since then we canceled support.
We all got new computers except for 1 person. We can't connect now from our new computers and have no
support so we can't figure out what the user id and pw is so that our new
computers can connect to the shared drive on the Toshiba. By shared drive I mean (file_share) that we connect to
when we scan something. I can logon to the machine and
have the admin pw for the unit itself (123456). There is no user groups
setup on the old XP laptop that worked. What is interesting is a Mac user came into my office, mapped the network drive,
and was presented with a "connect as guest" and mapped right to the scanner hard drive on the Toshiba. But i can't do it
    in the pc world.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried everything and i have a little bit of a tech background.
    Optional Information:
    Make: Toshiba
    Model: eStudio 202L

    Already Tried:
I've tried the pw 123456, pw admin, pw ADMIN, etc. and can't get on. I
logged into the printer with 123456 to fix the IP address and that worked
but still can't map to the scan drive (file_share). Also tried to download
the PDF driver but can't find it for both a mac and pc

I do not think the issue is a copier problem. What Version of Win7 do you have?

    Network & Sharing Center:

File & Printer Sharing, Turn On
    Public Folder Sharing, Turn On
File Sharing Connections, Use 128 Bit
    Home Group Connections, Allow.

You probably need to have the firmware updated with the machine. Starting with Vista there was packet signing with the scanning that had to be added to the machine via a new firmware update. XP didn't require it, and the Mac probably doesn't care.
      Hope that helps !

Ok, thank you to you both for your suggestions. I made all the changes in the windows 7 environment (I have the 64 bit professional version) and it didn't fix the problem.

On the firmware update, is that as simple as downloading the update and then trying to install it on the Toshiba box? Thanks!

Toshiba firmware is only available from a password protected, private Toshiba FTP site. You will have to contact an authorized Toshiba dealer and pay for the firmware update assuming your copier is not already under a Service Contract with an authorized Toshiba dealer.

Besides installing the firmware directly into the copier, usually via USB Drive, a series of Service Codes must be entered to complete the update.

Ok, i inherited this machine from a biz partner who closed down his business so we don't currently have a service contract. I have only 2-3 people in my office so it's not worth the contract. I think i'll buy a smaller machine from Staples for a few hundred bucks that works with all our computers. This thing is a beast for our needs anyway but not worth all the hassles that come along with it for our few users. I appreciate it. Looks like it will become a fixture in our office.
            thanks,
            Mike

For a few hundred bucks you can get the copier updated. It will have a lower cost of operation than any MFP you can buy at Staples. Typically at Staples, they give away the box but the cost of supplies are high. Also, onsite service for when that low end box is not working is not available from most retail office stores. The e202L is a good copier with losts of life left in it.

What do you think makes the contract worth? Yes, printing volume is going down and so is the cost of MFPs. Do you think the MFP contracts are going away in a near future and customers will switch to pay as you go?

                Thanks

The Service Contract is up to the installing dealer. Many dealers walking into a used copier that they have not serviced before will charge an initial fee to refurbish the copier. I do not know how many clicks are on this copier but the Refurb fee would likely be around $200-$300. Then they would put the copier on a Click Charge with a monthly minimum billing of typically $15.00 - $25.00. In exchange the customer would receive a copier that works well, is up to date and does not have to worry about Toner, Labour or Parts fees.

I do not see this type of contract going away any time soon and is a major advantage over Big Box retailers who are pushing a box at low cost. The box might be cheap but what are you going to do when it needs service?
