    Confused

Installed an fs-1135 mfp(kyocera) on a windows vista home premium edition, when i left yesterday everything was fine. Installed printer and deleted their old printer. Today i go back because the customer cannot print checks, the app says "no printers are installed". Deleted and reinstalled the kyocera printer, no success also had an issue trying to make the kyocera as a default printer. Just for the sake of science i reinstalled the brother printer i previously removed. The brother installed as the default printer and now the app recognizes the kyocera and can be used to print out their checks. Am i missing something here? I have installed printers for a long time and have never come across this before. Any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Confused

The only thing I can think of is that sometimes certain applications will only work with certain printers. We used to have issues all the time with a few different accounting softwares. For whatever reason, the software preferred HP printers. The only way to get our Kyocera printers to work with their software was to install HP drivers instead of Kyocera drivers. The drivers for the more basic HP models usually had a higher success rate...
But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

The only issues with application software and printing is finding where in the application software you tell it what printer you are using. Usually, the end user does not know either. Thats when I ask them this. " If you were having trouble with this software, who would you go to?" They usually say they call the software suppot line. I call it and tell them the end user has new printer and they direct me to where in the application software to change the setting to the new manufacture of the printer. Or worst case, they say they don't support that printer. Don't know if this helps, but your post made me think of this, so I thought I would throw it out there. Let us know what you find.

You haven't mentioned if these are set up as local printers (USB). I've come across many many disfunctional USB ports on PCs. Even had them drop off, then reappear after booting up. It's a big problem on early versions of Win7, maybe Vista too?

If it's a network printer I'd connect my PC to the Cat5 cable, start a continuous ping, and watch it for a while. I've seen flakey network connections that drop off at 15 second intervals or at certain times of the day. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Re: Confused

Sounds very much like a static IP address conflict...

Someone probably turns on a back-office printer once a month and conflicts with the IP's on the network.
Maybe an extra modem is being used for a stand-alone router.
A roaming PC-Laptop with a static IP connected on the network from time to time ?

          :: Solution ::
Set up completely different IP port address for the printer.

Ping the new IP address first and see if the IP address is taken.
          -Or -
At the DOS window type arp -a an check the IP is not in arp table on the current PC.

          -Or-

Use internet explorer and see if you can web browse the printer ?
You may connect to a completely different IP interface to what you expect. Eg. a modem, router or a backup Harddrive etc...

I'm with Blackcat on this one.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but this may help.

I've seen some really weird USB issues, even on very current PCs.

At present, I have a Dell Optiplex 745 (Ultra Small or "pancake" form factor) where only certain applications, such as Acrobat Pro reliably see an attached Fujitsu scanner. eCopy ShareScan, on the other hand, only sees it if you unplug the scanner, say nice things to it, chant, etc..., then plug it back in.

Very frustrating, and no answers from anywhere. All scanner firmware and the PC BIOS are current.

The very same scanner, with the exact same versions of drivers, OS (XP SP3), and application software, works just fine on a different Dell PC.
