Piece of paper from each tray? KM 420i

Hi, this might be a bit vague. Iv got a customer that when printing wants to take a piece of paper from each tray is this possible?

say if i opened MS Word and had a 4 page document. Page 1 from tray 1, page 2 from tray 2 etc etc

The driver only has a option for cover mode.

If anyone has done anything like this i would appreciate some help.

The only driver I've seen capable of doing this is the "mixed media" setting in some Fiery PS print drivers, which are different form regular PS drivers. If you don't see it in the driver then you will have to do it in the Application.

It will be a PITA but you can do this in Word with the "Page Setup" and highlighting all the text on a page. Depending on your version of word: The newer versions click on the "Page Layout" tab and then just below that in very tiny text you will see "Page Setup". In the classic menu go File>Page Setup. From the Page Setup menu get to the "Paper" tab and what they will have to do is select the drawer they want and then switch the "Apply to" from "whole document" to "selected text". They will have to highlight all the text for page 1 and then go to page setup and select drawer 1, then repeat for page 2, 3, and so on. Just be sure to warn them changing things in the Page Setup overrides the print driver, so if they edit the document and the page breaks change that will be some mess even Rod Serling can't figure out.

If the driver for this machine will accept the settings, you can actually set which tray to use from Word itself.

Go into the Page setup options and you will find what I am talking about. You should be able to set different trays per page from there.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

I think what you're looking for is called a Macro. The program resides on a CF card and is called via a virtual printer port #, i.e.: 9101
There will be a short PreScribe command preceding the print job to start the program.

That's about all I know about it. I can't help you write the Macro, or compose the command to run the job. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I have done this several times in the past for customers who wanted different colors for multiple copies or a "1st page logo letterhead" and "2nd page plain letterhead" and envelope print jobstreams... It's not too difficult but a little familiarity with Prescribe helps. Blackcat was on the right track except you don't need to download macros to a CF card or use non-standard ports. In the "ADVANCED" tab under "Printing Preferences" is an option "Prologue/Epilogue". Here you can insert text files with the appropriate commands to switch the feed source for the desired pages. Set up an additional printer that uses these factors so it can be used as required. The Prescribe manuals can be downloaded from the KDAconnect website.
