    W7 SMB Scanning

    W7 SMB Scanning

OK, I know there are a zillion threads about this issue here but I'm still not able to let SMB scanning work with W7 (XP no problem ofcourse). All silly W7 Username and Authentication requirements seems to be set correctly. Any hints or instructions how to get this working? Its mainly about KonicaMinolta BH 350 B&W machines. What did I left out?

My set up with Scan-FTP works fine but customer insists using SMB scan though.......

It could be a sharing issue because of the workgroup setting in the advanced window of the sharing center.

why do you think it's login? The 350 has no real diagnostics.

Of course there's the myriad of domain issues if it's a domain environment

      Re: W7 SMB Scanning

      Make sure you check everything.

Check that the folder is set to shared through a PC on the same network.
Check the folder you are scanning to has the correct permissions set, you may need to allow everyone to read & write. Make sure the folder is shared using Advanced Sharing and not just through Share...
Try adding a domain qualifier to the username, e.g. domain\username or username@domain.
Try connecting directly through IP, then move onto hostname. Preferably use the hostname.
Some devices require you to lower the encryption to 40/56-bit, by default Windows 7 is on 128-bit. (This can be done in Control Panel -> Network & Sharing Center -> Advanced Sharing Settings).
You could also try lowering the NTLM authentication in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> Security Options to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated. Also, with Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients, untick Require 128-bit encryption.
Some devices have problems with Windows Live Essentials and similar products, these may need to be uninstalled.
This usually fixes most devices, your results may vary. If all else fails, it may be a firmware issue.

I don't get it. Are there so many varieties of W7?

(BTW: Is there any good argument against FTP scanning?)

havent used a 350 so not sure if it still has it, but if you goto job details. Does it tell you what the error was? login error? server connect error?

OK, went there. SMB-Scan on my W7 Notebook works. However with the same settings it doesn't work with their W2008 R2 server.

As a workaround I installed Scan-e-mail for the moment. The reason their IT-guy doesn't want Scan-FTP seems to be a security issue.

Thanks for all of your input guys.

My main issue with FTP scanning is when a tech gets lazy and scans to the IP address versus the host name, IPs change, and it's a call back that's not necessary, also, the FTP utility has to be running on the host, again, some users accidently turn it off, and I don't like running any extra services on a server...but back to your SMB issue...by default, Win 7 (and maybe 8) has SMB file and print sharing turned off. This will be a brick wall you won't get through..Firewall setting can block communications also. Win7 home edition (not too many out there except in the private home setting) doesn't support SMB scanning (I believe..someone correct me if I'm mistaken, except for ZAZA or TinnyJay as they are tools). Hope this helps. Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Advanced Sharing Settings -> Find the current profile (most likely Home or Work) -> Turn on file and printer sharing.

I didn't see the MFP was a 350 until later, the firmware adds NTLM ver1/2 and allows you to scan back to a domain controller or a "NAS" (linux based drive). I know the firmware was put out for the 362 series, but I'm not sure if it was released for the 350. Either way, w/o a KM account you're gonna have to beg someone for it. We try to upgade these old MFPs before they start adding win7/server2008 etc..Emujo
