    Re: SMB "Login Error"

It's not an incorrect username / password. Believe me, I've been thru that scenario in my head 5 times. I have checked and rechecked credentials over and over. If one thing is right, it's the credentials. It's so odd that the copier error log lists the username as "Public", which isn't even close to what I'm using as the username.

I had originally tried to authenticate via the local.machine account. After that, I tried a domain account. I used all caps on everything but the passwords. NTLM is set to v1/v2. I have not tried change this to v2 only.

I can hit the target machine and shared folder from another Windows machine. I have not tried to make a Firewall exception for p139.

This is a leased machine. Is it possible that my organization must pay for SMB to be unlocked? Keep in mind that I am able to configure it via the Admin area. I can see and change all the settings for SMB (and everything else). Unfortunately I was out of the loop during the acquisition, this thing just magically appeared one morning. I'd love to send it back...back to the murky and dysfunctional non-SMB-handling depths from which it came. Our old copier worked fine; progress.... Oh well, at least they plugged in the ethernet cable. *sigh*

Scratch that, it's not leased. Paid in full with all features unlocked.....

public is the community name, so that's your clue.

I would personally do a Data Capture and analyze with WireShark.

      Good luck!

        try the following steps:

On Windows 7 machine create a user (scanner for example) with a password (passw@rd for example)
right click on the folder and go to sharing tab [advanced sharing] button
click share (remember share name ie.. scans)
click permissions click add in box type name (scanner as in above example)
click check name record name (something like \\computer\scanner) and click ok
click full control click ok click ok til back at sharing screen
Click security tab click edit click add in box type name (scanner as in above example)
click ok click full control click ok click ok til back to security tab click tab.

Go to store address of web page.
        click new registration
        click smb
click name box and enter a name (win 7 scans)
click check box for enter host name
enter the computer name in caps (THECOMPUTER)
click path box and enter the share name ( SCANS for example from above)
in user name type in recorded name from above (\\computer\scanner for example from above)
        check password is changed
enter the password in the box (both if it ask for confirmation box)

Check the network settings (as you said above that you already changed it) under the smb setting and change to V1/V2
check the tcpip settings and make sure DNS settings are entered (even if it is set for auto obtain) If none are set then use gateway for first one and 8.8.8.8 for second.

Then try and see if it scans. If it does not work then try making the scans folder in the root of c: [c:\scans] and try that. If it works then leave it there and create a shortcut to this folder on the desktop.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!
