    SMB "Login Error"

    What I have:
    Konica Minolta Bizhub 423
    Windows 7 Pro
    Windows XP Pro

    Environment:
    LAN, Domain
    Not crossing gateways

    What I'm trying to do:
Scan via SMB into shared folder onto a Windows computer.

    ---------------

On the copier, I get the error "Login Error" / "User Name: Public"

    I have:
    1. Set up a shared folder on the Windows 7 computer
    2. Created a local account on the W7 computer and given share and folder permissions to the shared folder.
    3. I have input the following in the SMB Store on the copier:

    [x] Main
    Name: test01
    Host Address: dell01
    File Path: scanfolder
    User ID: tempacct01
    Password: @aNiftyPassW0rd@

    4. I go to the copier, and select test01 from the Scan screen, and immediately get the error "Log in Error".

So, I read thru the forums here and ensured that on the copier under Network/SMB, NTLM is set to v1/v2.
On the W7 computer, ensured File/Print Sharing is enabled and to allow for older 48-bit/56-bit encryption methods to be allowed.
    Same problem.

Undaunted, I continued by mixing in FQ names:
    Host Address: dell01.thisismy.net
    User ID: tempacct01@dell01.thisismy.net
    Same problem.

    Retried with IP Address.
    Same problem.

Retried with a Windows XP Pro box, new (but similar) machine.name/username/password
    Same problem.

So, what I'd like to know is....What manner of blood ritual must be performed in order for SMB to work?

Not certain about the 423's, but most of the KM machines require that the addresses/names/logins are entered in uppercase letters. I would try that to start.

Have you tested the folder permissions/credentials from another PC? From Run: \\pchostname\scanfolder\

      Have you tried?: domain\username
Have you tried port 445?: 192.168.1.100:445

On the host addy try it with an IP rather than the host name.

          Re: SMB "Login Error"

Yes I've tried inputting the IP directly.
This is an edit: Yes I did try domain\username, but I used the localmachine.name\username format, as 'username' does not exist in AD. I'd rather step around the Powers That Be that dwell in the AD Realm, and simply use a local account for authentication.

No I didn't try an explicit port.
No I didn't try uppercase letters in the host/username/share.

I'll give that a shot here shortly and report back. Thanks for the suggestions!

            Hi...not sure if this helps

            SCAN TO SMB
            1) Create and configure shared folder on your C drive as on the relevent pages ofthe
Konica Minolta FTP & SMB Setup Guide for WindowsThis must be typed in using upper case.
            7) Type in the
SHARE NAME of the folder you created in step 18) Type in the User Name and Password the customer uses when they log into theircomputer first thing in the morning. If this does not work, a new user must be setup on the PC just for SMB scanning.
            9) Click Apply and then OK
Tip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...

To troubleshoot, I would use just the WinXP box for starters, as Win7 has it's own issues with SMB (don't get me started!)

At the XP box, have a folder created in the 'My Shared Documents' folder and then share it out to everyone. At the Konica control panel, go into admin/network settings/SMB settings/print settings and change the default workgroup name to the customers domain name. Then set up a one touch button from the MFP by browsing their network and navigating to the workstation folder you just created. Test for success!

                Re: SMB "Login Error"

Thanks everyone. I have tried all of the above and it's still not working. The scanner is indeed on the same workgroup as the target machine. Tried with the IP address, uppercase in username, share and machine name. I can sit with a laptop with the same network cable as the copier, and hit the target machine with no problems. I have rechecked to be sure the password is put in correctly.

Here's the Windows (XP) Event Viewer log (failed login):

                Error Code: 0xC0000064

Here's the error message displayed on the copier:

Yes there is AV running. But this shouldn't be an issue since I can log in to the target machine from another Windows machine. The target machine is attempting to authenticate the credentials provided from the copier, but the login is failing. It almost seems like something to do with the encryption method being used. It's so close to working, lol.

Try this...On the MFP login as Admin, go to NETWORK SETTINGS/SMB SETTINGS/PRINT SETTINGS..Change the default workgroup name to the domain name ie acme.com use only "ACME". Log off as admin..next touch utility key and pick #1,#1,#1,#4..This should have you in the SMB option, touch "New" and scroll down the page till you see "referance" and touch it...If the MFP basic IP info is set up correctly then you should be able to navigate through the network to find the folder you are looking for..you will need the login credentials at some point..This will verify that you have the proper credentials and the folder is shared properly. Once you get one working you can launch Page Scope and use this as a referance to create any other scan locations as it will be set up correctly (UNC path, user name, password etc)..We had this issue once and working backwords was the only way we could get it to scan back to a win7 box. If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

Got all that, but I do not see "Reference" on any of the "pages". I've scrolled through three screens:

                        Screen1:
                        Number
                        Name
                        User
                        Password

                        Screen2:
                        Host Address
                        File Path

                        Screen3:
                        Index
                        Icon

I put the device on our ACME domain and I even tried connecting with a set of working (non-admin) AD credentials. What you're suggesting makes sense, working backwards to it. I just don't see "Reference" anywhere. Thanks.

                          Re: SMB "Login Error"

You are using Domain Credentials to push the scan yeah?

In this case, please make sure that you have the machine set to authenticate with NTLM v2:

                          1. Utility
                          2. Admin Settings
                          3. Network Settings
                          4. SMB Settings
                          5. Client Settings
                          6. NTLM v1/v2
                          7. OK

Active directory uses NTLM V2 but the machines come out of the box with NTLM v1 only enabled.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

This might also be worth a try...

Had a C200 install in a Win 7 environment. Everything working fine except SMB. It would scan but hang. Eventually it would fail and I'd get a login error report.

I had the same setup as above. Hostname in capitals. I created an exception in the windows firewall for port 139. I created an exception in their norton antivirus.

I eventually turned out to be Windows Essentials Live. I removed that as the client didn't use it and it worked absolutely fine straightaway. Might be worth trying.

The machine normally tells the truth.
Check your user name and password - they are both case sensitive
Try to create another user name and password and see what happens.

                              Hope it helps,
