Scan to folder using V-lans(virtual networks) Sharp MFP

    Hi

any one experienced problems scanning to network folders when v-lans are involved

scan to e-mail and a couple of pc with sharpdesk work fine

A customer of ours recently updated to v-lans and now...intermittantly the mfp`s come up with the error selected servers not found scannig to network folders

Is this possibly a port issue as scan to email and sharpdesk work they use different ports

The MFP are sharp Mx-5000 latest firmware v5

everything seemed to work before customer changed to v-lans

customer is complaining that its the MFP`s at fault........yeah i know

Im no I.T expert and am not really sure what v-lans are

I guess there are no settings on the machines for this

hope someone can shed some light on this issue

    many thanks

So... The Sharp is scanning to some of the desktops using Sharpdesk utility, but not others...

Here's a question you can ask the customers IT Dept:

Do they have Trunk links setup so that the VLANs can move traffic from one switch to the other? If so, are the PCs that are unable to scan in a different VLAN than the Sharp is assigned to?

It seems your issue is on the customer's IT, because VLANs logically place devices on specified switchports in different networks, and without
inter-VLAN communication, scanning won't happen. Owl, can you weigh in on this please? The Owl knows..

Hey thanks for the info on this

At the momment it seems to be a problem with the machines using hostnames in the folder paths...if we use the ip address instead things seem to work........

Machines time out we think if they can`t resolve the hostname...

It is not The mfp`s at fault...surprise,surprise

As i said everything worked before the v-lans were added/fitted or whatever you do with them...

      Many thanks

It sounds like there's a latency between the VLANs and DNS. Since the machine works by IP, I'd have the customer's IT look at the responsiveness of the DNS server onsite.

          Thanks for that

Thats what the customer is now looking in too

Main thing is ..the MFP`s are not at fault

I know updated firmware for the machines sometimes helps with the latest I.T developments but that is up to date

Yes sir, if the machine doesn't scan to host, the next test is always scan direct to IP, especially if you're more than sure everything else isn't a cause ( i.e. incorrect path and share name , authentication, firewall). Then the customer's IT can resolve.
