    email server emulation software

I would like to know if any one knows of a good email server emulation software.
I have a closed network setup for machine testing and training and it works great.
I just need to emulate an smtp server for scan to email testing.

    thanks

Do you have any computers/servers on your closed network you are using for networking?

If so in the likes of Windows XP, Server 2003 you can install IIS and there is a SMTP server in there.

        I've used Ability Mail Server.

The main reason I went with it (it's not free) is that it is also an LDAP server. That came in super handy for testing and training with LDAP enabled MFPs.

Tons of places to download it from.

I've used ARGOSOFT in the past. It works well and did have a free version at 1 time.

I would like to thank those of you that have replied to my query.
I have downloaded those suggested and will be testing them to see which will work best for my application.

All the techs we have use Argosoft or Postcast sever

I like postcast server as its soooo easy
              Postcast server v2.6.0 is free
              Download

We don't normally set it up to forward messages as we are just keen to prove the MFP is working and its something on the network side causing the issue.

This is nice to have in your bag of tricks, but right now im pretty content with telling the customer "it's Gmail or nothing baby."

A couple of years ago I had an IT associate set up my laptop as an SMTP server using IIS. I don't know enough to do it myself, but it has proved very handy to identify a working scanner (and most of them are), verses a not-working scanner.

My understanding is that WinXP has the capability built in, whereas Vista, Win7, and Win8 require additional software added.

For me, the three most common causes of scan to email issues are:
                  1) Incomplete credentials (" ... and how would I know your username and password?)
                  2) free email servers with poor connectivity or limited capabilities.
                  3) syntax (" ... you mean there aren't three periods in gmail.smtp..com?", or the senders address doesn't need to have 56 characters.)

Maybe it's just a Kyocera thing, but after several months or years using the same settings, a particular line of data can become ... "corrupted", for lack of a better term. For example, the server name or sender name can be syntactically correct, yet not work properly until the data is re-entered and saved. Perhaps it's an indication that there are a few bad sectors on the hard drive. I don't know, but re-entering the data restores function. I've seen examples of this as server name, sender name, username, password, and addressbook entries.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                  1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                  2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                  3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                  4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                  5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                    Re: email server emulation software

I have used hMailServer with our guys and have found really easy.

About 1 year ago, I deployed Virtual Machines to our techs laptops so that they could test all kinds of things. The Virtual Machine started out as a plain base image of Windows 2008 R2 and then through the training I got them to do, we turned that plain server into a Domain Controller, DHCP Server, SMB and FTP File Server and using hMailServer, an email server as well.

I found that hMailServer made it easy for the guys as after they scanned something through as a test, they could then vuew the scan via a web interface, thus being able to show a customer that the machine scans to email just fine.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.
