    not printing

    hi friends,

am working on a ricoh mpc3500 and i have failed to get it to work on the LAN network,
for starters when i ping the copier i get the message ' request timed out' ,the ip address, subnet and gate way are all put correctly in the machine now the the thing that scares me is that when i print out configuration test print or copy, it shows a different ip address subnet and gate way apparently set by the previous owner of the copier. (the copier address are specified not on dhcp)

i hope you guys will understand my question and help me out if so thanks in advance

Do a memory clear on Printer and NCS, then re-input the IP address values. If it still doesn't take, you may have a faulty controller; try to eliminate it by connecting directly to the copier.

If you're not that familiar with networks, the safest way is to enable DHCP, then power Off/On. Once an address has been selected, save it as the static address.

If you're more familiar, you might connect your laptop to the network cable. Open the Command Prompt then enter: ipconfig/all then Enter. From this information you can identify the IP range (for example: 192.168.0.xxx). Then open NetScan, enter the appropriate IP range (for example 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254), then Start Scanning. NetScan will identify all the used IP addresses. Seeing this list you can be sure to select an unused address. To avoid duplicating an address that might be handed out by DHCP, I usually select a high address, above 240 (for example: 192.168.0.241). Enter it as a static IP address into your MFP. Power the MFP Off/On to lock in the address.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Don't forget the obvious. Start with making certain that you have an active network connection.

Print out a network status page and make sure that the ip address range was not limited by the previous owner....many times this is done for security purposes!...I have before had to go in through telnet using a crossover cable and clear the ip address range!

USB-printing is completely different than printing using TCP/IP. Go to Devices and Printers (That's if you're using Windows) and see if "Off-line Prining" is selected (Double-click on the printer). Make sure Off-line Printing isn't enabled. Also check the Printer Properties - Ports and check if the port is set to the correct IP-Adress.

If you're customer is working "In the Cloud" then it's possible that you can't access the machine using a browser. You have to ask the IT-guys to install the printer drivers for you.

If you can connect the machine to a laptop or PC by a cross-over cable and let it print, then you can forward the problem to the IT-guys. then it's their problem...

Check the setting of SP5985-001. It should be set for 1. As for the "Off Line", go to the port tab in the driver properties. Click "Configure Port" and uncheck the box next to SNMP Status Enabled". If the computer sends a SNMP status to the copier and does not get a response back within a set time limit, the computer assumes that the printer is off line.
