    New Konica-Minolta bizhub C3350 Scan-to-Email problem

    Dear Forum Members,
I've delivered the first C3350 we've selled to a customer today.
I was there with the IT admin of the customer to install the C3350
within the customers LAN. All has worked fine, printing, Scan to SMB but
not Scan to Email (Mail Server is a MS Exchange Srv-
same server as is used for smb scanning). I've configured the SMTP settings
the same way i've been used to for years now. The IT admin compared the
Scan to Email settings with a bizhub C220 from another customer. (They seemingly
install the same network structure at other customers). We could not recognize any-
    thing different.
Does anyone have expierences with that? Is there a problem with the new C3350
    with Scan to Email?

    Thank you for your help

    Re: New Konica-Minolta bizhub C3350 Scan-to-Email problem

I have connected a C3350 as well with no issues scanning to email. We used G-mail not MS exchange. I would suggest setting up a yahoo or gmail account to prove the scan to email works. There are a bunch of tech bulletins talking about using MS exchange from Konica Minolta and what settings need to be set on the exchange server (Which I don't know a lot about).

Are you trying to relay scan or scanning within the domain?

The key word I believe is "relay". In the Exchange world a relay is usually the culprit when scan to email doesn't work but scan to folder does. The copier is simply a forwarding tool, it doesn't process anything. If scan to folder works then you most likely need to have the Exchange administrator make sure the new copier is added to the allowed list on the Mail Server and that the relay will go through when the communication is made between the devices.

You can also use GMX to perform a simple test, its free and super easy to setup. Uses SSL so you can also test the security end. Free Webmail and Email by GMX | Sign Up Now! and setup a free account.

      Hope that helps.

If this is the first machine that they have setup with their Exchange Server, then they won't have an "Unauthenticated Open SMTP Receive Connector".

Out of the box, Exchange installs itself in quite a secure mode and the only way to get the MFD to talk to Exchange is to replicate the Exchange settings exactly (TLS, Use a correct Mailbox, Authenticate the Connection) or to create another Receive Connector and then whitelist the IP addresses of the machines allowed to use the connector.

        Email with Exchange 2010.pdf

The above document goes through the steps of creating the connector which should then get you up and running.

I still find it funny with how many "IT People" decide to go down the Exchange route, but really have know idea what they are doing and when it comes to things like this, the easy option is to blame the equipment.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

          Exactly .....

Great how to "Email with Exchange 2010"

Typical Exchange issues (Exchange 2007 and newer) are resolved by using a combination of Authentication, TLS and port 25 to authenticate with the Exchange Server.
Additional steps may be required as needed.

I installed several of these for one customer with exchange. There is running on port 25 with no auth. No problems for me. I don't know anything about their server though.

Depends entirely on the site and how they setup Exchange. All of my Exchange sites require authentication for everything except from the IP addresses of printers and MFDs. That way, if the site catches a nasty virus or spam bot, it can't do much with out authentication.

I agree with the relay settings in Exchange.
Most cases for me the IP Address needs to be allowed to relay mail.
And yes a lot of IT people have no clue what that means.
