    A quirk of Gmail

    For you computer guys or skilled Gmail users:

    Have you ever noticed that Gmail automatically downloads email attachments to a "Downloads" file folder in "My Documents"?
    Is there a way to make Gmail bring up a prompt screen as to where you'd like to save your document, and possibly rename it? That would save two steps:
    1) dragging the file to the appropriate folder
    2) renaming the file

    It's a little thing, but annoying. =^..^=
    If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      I don't know. I have never needed to download anything from my Gmail account. I think I will try sending it something from my work account and see what I can find.

          I think it's just your browser configuration.
          I have the option when downloading from Gmail
          I have my default settings (in 'Chrome' for example) to "always ask" where to download, so whether I'm downloading from Gmail, or anything else (ie: programs) I always have to option to select the location and rename

                      In Chrome you can go to "settings", then scroll all the way to the bottom and open "advanced settings" then scroll down some more and you will see the options for the default download path and a check box to enable "Ask where to save each file before downloading"

                          It was right on the front page of Firefox Settings. I was just thinking about it wrong. Thanks! =^..^=

                                  In Firefox, in the address bar where the http goes, you can type in "about:config" minus the quotation marks and will give you all kind of program level developer options that you might not find elsewhere! It will give you a feature search...type in "download" minus the quotation marks and it will filter the settings that pertain to the word "download"!

                                          Careful if you use this as it can really screw up Firefox if you change the wrong thing. Write down everything you change from what to what.

                                                  Holy crap! I can't tell what most of that stuff is. I'll stick with the GUI for now. Leave that for the programmers.
