KM5050 win8.1 test page OK, MS Office causing crash

    Hello

Have experienced win8.1 crashing when installed with 5.2 driver for KM5050.

    Test page OK.
    PDF = OK
Word = crash the whole system
Excel = Crash the whole system

    Error KMODE

Print Driver properties Type3 - User Mode

It doesn't crash when KPDL is used however it prints blank page from MS - Office.

Machine set to KPDL (AUTO), tried PCL6 and PCL5e = crash.

Win update no later driver available.

    Any ideas?
.OK Google! ... will I need Berrocca this morning?

have you tried the drivers on the Kyocera website as opposed to the built in Windows 8 driver?

I was going to suggest trying the Universal driver, or the Direct Print driver.

I think you're on the right track with the printer emulation settings, it's just finding the right combination. You might try different quality settings, DPI settings, KIR Off/On, Print-As-Image, ... all the possible settings/combinations.

Most likely the next version of the print driver will solve this problem, without tweaks. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

If I'm not mistaken Kyo didn't officially support Win8 til KX v6.0 & therefore probably why your v5.2 is giving you problems.

If updating the driver like the others have suggested doesn't help, then look at disabling any Bi-Directional communication from the driver to the machine such as in built driver options and SNMP.

A little known fact is that MS Office constantly talk to the default printer while you are typing out / creating documents. To stop this from happening, you simply disable the communication between the driver and the machine which should free Office up enough to simply work.

Other things that can happen are Pop-Up boxes for the driver which could appear in the background rather than in front of the Office application. As soon you start clicking on the Office application, it times out as it is still waiting for the Pop-Up to be addressed. I don't know if Kyocera drivers have any Pop-Ups within them, but I have certainly seen this with other manufacturer's drivers.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.
