    IE Updated - Causing headaches

Anyone having the same troubles as we are with customers printing from IE? On our Kyoceras, the most common code it produces is a F248 and doesn't clear with a power cycle until the customer clears the job from their queue on their PC. On some Panasonics, they will power cycle themselves over and over until the job is cleared from the queue. I can sometimes get around it by changing the emulation on the Kyocera models, but in some cases this makes the copier process much longer than normal. It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen enough to be a concern for me.

I have been able to replicate this from my office PC running windows 8, IE 10 V.10.0.9200.16899 specifically on zillow.com which will produce a F248 code on our Kyoceras every time when looking at a property listing (Printing process error). Prints just fine from chrome or firefox. 90% of our customers do not and would not use a universal driver so I haven't tested that yet anywhere.

The websites that I've seen stuck in the print queue don't seem to have any pattern. Some are statments from their banks website, some are printing a pdf file from within IE, or just trying to print what they see on the website they're on.

I've been asking our customers not to use IE when they need to print something from a website.

I'm assuming this is an update that caused this? If anyone else has had this issue, is there anything you have done to correct it? Just curious. Thanks!

It sounds close to an issue that a lot of Ricoh devices had with IE. The issue is related to font caches. For Ricoh devices there was a firmware update needed. My overall theory is that it's an HTML5 issue, but I can't be entirely sure.

Do you get the same issue from other browsers? Internet Explorer has always played a little fast and loose with web standards.

I'd use it as a good time to get users onto Firefox (specifically the ESR version), or Chrome (which has its own issues).

      F248 = SC899

Same kind of print errors are crashing various Ricoh models as well.
Primarily it's been web page print jobs from IE, but I've seen some print jobs from Outlook, Word and Acrobat also cause the same problem.

Printer, PCL and RPCS firmware updates are now starting to get on top of the problem for Ricoh.

It's surprising how resistant business is from moving away from IE.
My guess is Microsoft have their nuts in a vice when it comes to domain policy integration and extended support agreements.
I would certainly try and push for getting the Firefox ESR installed and running along side IE as a alternative.

The problem is mostly with IE 9 and IE 10. The main problem is web pages with moving text or images. IE apparently does not flatten the page before sending to the printer. One thing that I have been told to have customers try is to print preview the page and then print from the preview. For more information on the problem with Ricoh search SC 899.

I don't know about those things, but IE won't display Toshiba FYI Portal or Google any more. I've had to shift most of my default websites to Firefox. I haven't been on IE in weeks. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

                *off topic*

Never used IE in all my Internet life. First it was Netscape and than its offspring Mozilla Firefox and I'm happy with it.

I think I read somewhere that using XPS print drivers over PCL/PS driver eliminates a lot of web printing errors? I imagine this is the case due to the XPS being XML based and a newer PDL than PCL and PS. Problem is not all devices support XPS or have XPS drivers.

Re: IE Updated - Causing headaches

Part of the problem is that there are now so many web only fonts that the devices can't keep up. Add on to that poor coding where there's no substitute font and things get even worse since the PDL knows there's something there, but it has nothing to put in its place. Of course, people also just see a page and print without using the 'printable version' option that's clearly on the page they've just printed with the banner ads and everything else on it. At this point, I've tried to teach as many users as possible to look for that option, and to also remember that web pages are generally made for viewing, not paper output so don't be surprised when things don't work exactly as they should.

Yep, it's from IE. I ask the customers to print the same thing that would fail in IE in either Chrome or Firefox if they have it and it prints just fine.

It sounds like Ricoh is on top of it, hopefully Kyocera will follow. I don't like IE myself. I always have to switch it into compatibility mode to log into the Kyocera command center web interface, and It's just generally much slower than my favorite browser, Chrome.

                      Thanks for the repys!
                      Happy Friday!

I'm curious if anyone has seen any issues with other manufacturers? Sharp and Samsung to be specific...
We have had multiple calls over the past few months for locked up MFP's, printers and even had some causing the MFP's to reboot constantly.
                        Thanks

The Kyocera Voyager and VoyagerE series machines (NS-30 scan card) had communications problems with Firefox, but before the scan card firmware update. Current scan card firmware allows scan to SMB and use of the Firefox browser.

I've also seen some bizhub 501's that lock up in the web interface, and will only become responsive after rebooting the machine ... only with a single certain version of Internet Explorer. Newer and older versions, and other browsers worked just fine.

This appears to be a problem for all maufacturers at the moment. If possible in the print driver set TrueType fonts to Bitmap or download as softfont and see if that helps.

Or just use FireFox or another browser.
