Scan to SMB impossible with XP computers

    Good morning

One of my customer recently installed a new network (server with " Windows server 2003") and computers with XP pro. It's impossible
to use the scan to folder option , but it's possible with my own
portable computer, also running under XP pro !
Any help would be very appreciated

Do you send files to server (win 2003) or directly to PC`s (XP).

On Win 2003 you have to disable SMB digital communication policy in Registry.

Also configure firewall to allow files from machine IP address

I installed SMB scan folder on PC's only, not on the server, your right
for the firewal ( Mc Affe antivir program), i disabled it and after what i had
a message on the MFP ( MPC 2000) about login ID error, i can't understand why, i use an admin account whith password.

Yes i have. I'm able to ping the PC, using its name ( they have the
DHCP option enabled), and that's all !I think the problem is that same
old problem with XP : authentication

Try getting a user name and password for the MFP(s) created on the server so that they are recognised as valid users. The password retention can be set to never expire.
Also, along the lines of packet signing mentioned earlier, some models require special firmware to scan to SMB on server 2003. I know for a fact a lot of older (2232c, LD145, that range) devices needed a little tweak to the firmware to get them going again.

You also may need the domain along with the username. (DOMAIN\username) as the login.

Thank your for your help !
i will try to fix this problem as soon as possible, same old problem with
new installation: they never make a test for all devices connected to the
                network .

Since you're scanning to each computer, you will need to authenticate with a username/pw that does not expire (I used to set a separate one in each computer I scanned to.)

Also, use the computer's hostname\share in the path, rather than the computer's ip addy (for DHCP reasons.) If you don't, and use the addy, it could-but probably won't-change on you as the lease gets closer to expiring, I believe @ 50% and then at 80% of time.

If you decide to scan to the server, which would be better, you may need to go into the gpedit.msc and modify the smb settings (it's been a while since I've done this.)

Yes, as the previous post stated, you may need to use the domain\share. It's weird because some need this, and others don't.

There is enough people on this forum to help you troubleshoot this, so you will get this.
