    Any IKON Solution Analysts?

Maybe there are some IKON people here that might help me (thanks in advance).

Right now I work for a dealer as a service technician. In my time here the dealer has taken good care of me (company car with personal use that includes all gas, laptop, training, BlackBerry). In my (less than ten years more than five) time here I've built a good reputation and would get an interview if a management position opened. up. I am very eager to grow my career. I may have to wait in excess of five years from now for a position to open up. I've already been waiting two years.

However there may be an oportunity to move to IKON in the Professional Services area, possibly as a Solutions Analyst. It means less screwdriver and toner time, and more software/connectivity time (which is a plus). I don't know if that would include a car, laptop, or phone (very handy in doing this work I'm sure you know).

I'm not unhappy where I am. However, I am looking to advance my career.

I'm looking for anonymous feedback on the situation. As you can imagine I can't talk with my co-workers about this and I'm looking for an informed opinion on what the SA position is like.

I've never heard anything good about IKON. (Have gone to Ricoh U. with many IKON guys.)
Don't take that toner with me!

Not trying to be a jerk, but in one paragraph you say that you are well taken care of. Then down a ways, you say you are not happy. I'm assuming because you are not advancing fast enough (as much as a 5 year wait). Is the 5 year wait because of people being well taken care of at your company?

Don't take your current company treating you good for granted. Believe me, as far as the large dealers go (including Ikon), the grass is not always greener on the other side (even if it may seem so now from the outside).

Personally, I would rather have patience and stay with a good company than to make a poor decision just for advancement and find out my new job (company) made me even more unhappy (would be like 1 step forward, and 2 steps back).

      Just my 2 cents
      Regards

You need to find out what they are offering. They don't give out cars, they pay you for your milege. They also provide a laptop, a phone and training.

It is definitely less/no screwdriver time.

I here what your saying, your a service tech now and your ready to move to the SA position.

I think ikon is about as fair as any other company, they give you the tools you need(laptop, phone, training) pay your expenses, and pay you the salary agreed upon.

Also being in a big company makes it easy to transfer to just about where ever you might think about going, and there is opportunity to move up the ladder if that's what your looking for.

          Ricoh took over Ikon

Ricoh has taken over Ikon. There is going to be a lot of layoffs going on. Ikon has been losing money for years and they have told they are for sale.

Ricoh is going to eliminate duplicate jobs and probably issue a hiring freeze. That's becoming the nature of the business these days.

          You're better off staying put.
