    [Error Code] IRAC2030 E020-1160

Machine was working fine, no errors in history, but the customer reported there was black background on the prints.

All the drums were around 130% so I replaced all four & also the ITB as that was at 180%

Now the machine wont come to ready it keeps throwing E020-1160

If I fit the old magenta drum back the machine works fine, as soon as I fit the new magenta E020-1160

So far I have removed & cleaned the laser glass, no good, so removed the laser again & cleaned the polygon mirror I also updated the system software to the latest, still no good.

The only way I can get it to work is fit the old chip to the new drum, it then works fine, PG16 & PG10 prints look perfect.

Anyone got any ideas on what the issue could be? I've started seeing this a few times now I'm at a loss!

The only 2030 I had doing the code on black drum change, that got traded in. What I found the first time the old drum had no code and new drum code. I found out if you did a dc controller back up, clear, and then restore it won't code out. There is a tech pub on taking out the laser and cleaning which I had to do finally after the third drum or so. I had replaced a couple of drums and was getting various codes. This was a dirty manufacture plant that I would have to take the glass out and clean under from dirt or whatever it was was under the glass. I had many of these and the others have not done it yet and this plant updated everything to 2230's. I have no idea what causes it but the dc con clear must reset the drum chip. The back up and restore so you don't have to put in settings. For the back ground the new style ITB unit seems to fix that. Instructions on changing a few settings. I have done two machines so far and waiting on two others that get background that I have to replace black drum about 50%.

I have had this a couple of times.

You have done all that should be done (update to latest + clean the polygon).

I might add : a few restarts of the machine.

As far as I remember this solved the error last time.

      Good luck !

Thanks for the info, maybe I should have tried a few more restarts!

However leaving the old chip on the new drum do you think this will do any harm!?

If you leave your old chip inside the new drum - most probably when it reaches a certain number the machine will pop up an error.

I have had this a view times as well. Have normally replaced the drum causing the problem again and that normally solved the problem. Make sure that the patch sensor is clean. Apparently they say that the values when to high cannot be reset hence causing the error. Others have done a MNcon clear to reset the drum values. Should you do that be sure to have a P print and do a backup as it will clear the address book as well. Hope this will be off assistance.

              Hi
              I feel your pain lol!
other stuff to try is to remove all drums and the transfer belt, take off the top inner cover, clean all the drum and transfer connections at the back, I also remove the HV unit at the back of the machine and clean all the spring connections on that and the frame side but that doesn't always do the trick.

I have one machine that causes this every time I've had to change a drum, if I know Im going there I try and take a drum out of a spare machine as this seems to work.

              Good luck

              Les
