Is there a solution for drum unit IR105 ?

    Hi

I have Canon IR105 and photocopied papers have dots on upper side as pictures in attachments.
Some technicians said I have to change the drum unit, and some said it can be cleaned with special spray.

So, what are your suggestions and what exactly the name of the special spray to clean the drum.

    Regards.

Have you tried to replace the charge corona? I see those dots from the coronas. Unless you take the drum out and you can see them on the drum. Canon has a powder you use with alcohol. Some techs use car wax, I use the powder. But if you can not see them on the drum I suggest new corona units.

Yes, I changed the wires of charge corona, but not whole corona unit.
Also, yes I see those dots on the drum unit it self.

Can you please refer me to a guidance to clean the drum unit?.

If the dots are through the coating you have to replace the drum. Canon uses a powder which is mixed with isopropyl alcohol. Some people use brasso or car wax. Wipe from one end to the other and clean with isopropyl alcohol. They are supposed to go 5 million copies. I would only reccomend the canon drum powder.

Part number CK-0429-000 is the drum cleaning powder. The drum should be cleaned with the powder every 500K. The procedure for using the powder is in the service manuals on the following pages. IR600 on page 12-13, IR5000 on page 1-13T, IR 7200 IR8500 IR105 on page 5-19.

I agree with Dan7777. I would only use the Canon powder, that is a very expensive drum to potentially trash trying unproven abrasives and polishes.

I've used Brasso for years. It works fine

Yes I would use brasso & cotton wool, when you're finished give in a good clean with electrospray/alcohol then the last polish with only clean cotton wool.

However if you can "feel" the spots on the drum then most likely it is damaged & you can't clean them off.

This is damage to the drum is caused by poor maintenance, blocked or never replaced ozone & dust filters & corona units etc etc.

I also have used brasso..but your example copy , you might have to replace the drum..very expensive, if you already tried to price it. GOOD LUCK !!!
