    Canon C2020L E000003-0004

Hi guys . Can anyone help me with the error in the title for a canon c2020L? I don't have the service manual but i understand that the fuser is causing the problem. What is there to check? I could use some info or a service manual before going to the customer. Thanks.

dont know canons, but found this googling:

    E003-0004 Timeout at start-up
After the start-up control was started, the start-up control is not completed although 60 sec has passed.
    1. Check connection of the Connectors (Thermistor Connector and AC Connector). 2. Replace the Film Unit 3. Replace the Shutter Unit. 4. Replace the DC Controller PCB (UN1) NOTE: After performing the above remedy work, go through the following to clear the error: COPIER > FUNCTION > CLEAR > ERR.

Yes it's the Fixer that is giving the error code.
The fixer is an all in one unit, Open the R/H side door and you should see 2 blue tabs, press these down and pull the fixer assembly out. Check that no wires leading to the fixer are broken.
Check that there is no contamination in the plug on the fixer. Replace the fixer enter service mode and clear the error COPIER > FUNCTION > CLEAR > ERR then press ok in the bottom R/H corner. POPO the machine.
Wait for result, if error comes back replace fixer with one from another machine. If fault clears then New fixer is needed. If fault comes back then check the DC controller for loose wires.

To re-set this error first enter service mode:

*28* then press COPIER > FUNCTION > CLEAR > ERR Then switch off/on the error should clear.

The '*' is the additional functions button. (not the * on the keypad)

So press * then 28 together then * again.

Someone reset it, but it worked for like 2 days and the error came back. The machine is somehow now. At it's first set of toners. Could the fuser break that fast? I saw in one of teckkat's posts , related to e00003 error, something about a door switch wich can cause related problems. Is it the case in this one?

I've been working on Canon for 20+ years & for some reason all models seem to throw random fuser errors for no apartment reason right from new!

If you're happy with the outlet voltage, machine is plugged directly into the wall & not on an extension lead, the office doesn't suffer from extreme temperate fluctuations I have had some success in fitting a surge protector, these can be picked up cheaply from Maplins etc.

Failing that show a trusted user, IT pro etc how to reset the code in service mode.

Are they that sensible to voltage variations? I mean the machine is almost new.

Yes they can be, especially if they're sharing an extention lead with other devices drawing power, especially heaters etc

I recently had a fixer throwing E003 errors (on a c5030) and I was down to point of replacing the DC Controller. I decided clear the DC controller memory before replacing the board.
                  Well, it worked. [ Copier>Function>Clear>DC-CON ].
It's a long shot but might be worth a try.

I remember now that just as the copier starts, it gives this error. It doesn't warm the fuser at all. So i guess the problem is strictly from the fuser, and not the dc controller.

I saw the same problem on my c5030. Error popped immediately, fuser never warmed up at all. Took out the fuser and installed it in another machine where it worked perfectly. The DC Controller was the problem in my case.
