How do you guys fix E75 codes on 5000/5200 series?

We have a lot of these machines, and it seems that almost weekly we have a call for a 75 code. Canon is no help as they just say put the update kit in, which they all already have. I've tried belts, adjusting the motor all to no avail.

It's getting very frustrating as Canon doesn't like to hand out whole units to the 5000 series...

I get a lot, maybe one every couple months. I take the belt off and clean the rollers with a rubber rejuvenation solvent I use on rollers. Center the cam before putting belt back on. If it is not between 350 to -350 after ITB initialize move the bracket behind the drive motor. I think up if it is negative and down if positive. They have field reports of moving it all the way up but I don't like doing that. Now I have more 52XX machines and very few 50XX machines. It used to be to level copier on 50XX but I also don't like doing that if the feet come down and you can not move the copier around easily, I hate that. I feel very successful with E075 codes and it is rare for them to come back (for months on almost all). When they first came out they replaced the ITB assembly and we put in a few. I know about the updated kit but have never had to use it. Someone posted about it not working for them a while back. I may have over 20 of both models.

I'll try cleaning the rollers under the belt.

It's so frustrating to never get this damn thing fixed.

One of our sr techs takes the belt off and adjusts the steering mechanism, but I've never watched him do it and none of the other guys know what he's talking about.

Our shop machine has been throwing a fit lately and I just wanna put a screwdriver through the darned thing

It would be nice if the 52xx it unit worked in the 50xx...

Check the small white bushing that fits into the side of the cam. I've seen one that developed a flat spot. I also like to put a dab of Superlube grease on the cam shaft and in the cam groove to make it as easy as possible for the positioning motor to do its job. It might help. One other thing I've done is to use a carpenter's square to make sure the ITB frame is square and not bent.

There is a round cam that turns so far one way and the other. I think on same side as sensors. Center it so it turns both ways the same. They updated these for the first E075 codes. My feeling is the dirty rollers cause belts to track off. This has been an issue since the first belts. When the first 50XX machines came out nothing other than an updated entire assembly fixed them. Another senior tech here had multiple E075
calls my boss claims has been fine since he leveled copier. They tried multiple itb assemblies first. Dynamite sounds better than a screwdriver, such is the job we chose.

Lol. I think I found what was wrong. There are 4 white bushings with white clips. Two on either side that hold the assembly straight when the charge rollers get pushed down. One set, or one bushing and it's retaining clip, were missing. Found the clip but not the bushing. Cool thing is, when I measured another clip, these diameter measurements match almost exactly with the diameters of bic pens.

Also, those three clear ish plastic tabs on the bottom of the frame. Under or over?

nice fix, got any pics of the bushings you mentioned?

              as to your Q

Very often the cause of E075 is when the ITB cleaning blade throw waste toner on to the ITB assy rollers resulting in slippage of belt. My resolution which works for me is as follows: replacing 2nd Transfer roller(inner), Belt, Cleaning blade, and cleaning all the aluminium rollers and large drive roller. Lastly carefully cut-off the tight cable ties on the ITB assy connectors. Run the initialisation.

This is what I generally do.

Basically what I find is that the inner transfer roller is totally bald on one end, sometimes if I'm lucky I can clean it with water or rubber rejuv. Possibly getting another 50k out of it or something.........usually though the inside of the belt is dirty and/or stretched. It will go back to E075.

It is a huge pain in the ass on an otherwise good machine. I guess you can't win em all.

I adjust legs on the copier in some cases as well to cheat it.

The frame on the belt unit was tweaked. We straightened it up adjusted the motor and away she went.

I've since started carrying the transfer roller. I honestly hate temporary fixes and jimmy rigging things...

                      Hi,

I work for Canon Direct. I have had loads of these but as yet haven't had one that couldn't be resolved.

First and foremost ensure the machine is level (not sunken into carpet)

I replace the Secondary inner transfer Roller and it's bearings (the bearings are important)

Be sure not to bend the wee metal contact when you take it off.

Clean all the metal idler rollers and clean the drive roller.

Check the bushings are straight (if bent/broken - replace)

Turn the brown circular part of the steering mechanism so that it is centered.

I've fitted the improvement kits but largely don't as steps above work.

                      New belt.

When refitted in machine do an ITB init and then run the machine if the belt position is stable after 50+ copies you're sorted.

                      Good Luck!

I totally agree. The 5200 is slightly more stable, but if we can't fix it with a roller or two, instead of fighting it, we order a whole new unit

We also see loads of E075 codes. If the mod kit, new belt & a good clean of the drive rollers does not fix the issue we fit a complete new itb unit, these numbers come with the belt.
