I have a C2880 in the shop that was working fine and then the control panel went crazy, it was going to Send by itself and flickering then the screen went black. I turned it off and back on and now it won't boot up. The bar only barely gets started, like a 1/4 of an inch and you can hear all the start up sounds like normal then it just stays like that, never throws a code or anything. I have a parts machine and swapped out the bootrom, hard drive and memory sticks but no change....any ideas?

Re: C2880 wont boot up
First I would try reseating all the connections in the back of the machine, basically remove & refit all the boards etc, common fault on this old model now.Let us eat, drink, and be merry, because tomorrow we may die!

Re: C2880 wont boot up
Ok, so I replaced the main controller now it works fine except look at the example of a color copy attached.......Could I have plugged something in wrong? The b/w is fine, just color looks like this.Attached FilesComment

Re: C2880 wont boot up
Yes you probably got a connector not in all the way or wrong. Especially check the flat cables. Re seat all cables.Comment

Re: C2880 wont boot up
OK i'm assuming the quality was perfect before you stated work on the machine, yes it wasn't booting up but did the customer mention bad quality?
The main board you replaced was it new or from another machine? If it was used do you know 100% it was a good working board?Let us eat, drink, and be merry, because tomorrow we may die!

Re: C2880 wont boot up
If you pull out the SRAM PCB from machine B and mount it to machine A,
the PCB will be initialized and be rendered useless for machine A or B.
SRAM.jpg
FOR DIGITAL ISSUES/LINES = Also Check
on Main controller PCB ( the sub PDRM-EF-A Boards)====they control > image processing for printer output (color space compression, background removal, LOG conversion,
direct mapping, color balance, zoom fine adjustment, gradation conversion, screen processing,
framing, add-on)
The Upper PDRM-EF-A board controls Magenta and Cyan/ the Lower controls Black and Yellow
REMOVE and clean their contacts with alcohol, when dry > re-insert them/ ( u can swap these for testing
)
Also clean contacts and re-seat that top small sub RA Board = (controls >color space conversion, rotation for electronic sorting, binary processing, resolution conversion)

Re: C2880 wont boot up
Agree on Main Pcb Issue with board or it connections
PDRM-EF-A boards usually throw an Error Code or Digital Lines (poor contacts/connection)**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**Comment

Re: C2880 wont boot up
We ended up putting another Main Controller in and everything is working fine. Thanks for the help everyone!Comment
