    IR3100CN - Dead harddisk

    Hi,
Got a 3100CN for free - Since i'm looking for a A3 printer/copier, and there is 4 new toner sets with it, it though it was worth some time for fixing.

I got error E0602-0402, which seem to be a dead harddrive.. The drive is spinning now, after some tries, but must be replaced. I tried to make an image, but i'm not sure it'll work It's ~3,1 GB.

I have downloaded SST, but it seems that i need the firmware also - Where do I get that from?

    Thanks in advance,
    Carsten

EDIT: SST does not connect - All fields are greyed out. What could that be? I can ping 172.16.1.100

After reading on these forums, i came across this link; https://www.copierfirmware.co.uk/ - It seems they will have the firmware.

However, i want to make sure that SST will connect to my printer. Can someone help with SST?

      Hi,

First you need to register the firmware in the SST, with no firmware registered you cant choose what model to connect to.

Next you need to restart your copier into download mode. Turn the copier off, then turn back on while holding down keys 2&8 release the buttons when "download mode" is shown on the screen.

Make sure you laptop is on the same range as the copier download mode e.g 172.16.1.xxx

Now you can connect to your copier & install the firmware.

So, the SST can't do anything without a firmware loaded? Great support tool..

I had it in download-mode, and i can ping 172.16.1.100. Will order a firmware, and hope the machine does not have other defects.

Can you recommend a HDD to get. IDE drives are rare now a days.

You may find the HDD is actually OK, you can format it when you load the firmware.

If you do need to replace it you cant just fit any HDD it has to be a model approved by Canon.

You can create a boot USD drive to install the firmware using the SST.

I read somewhere, that one could add a line, if the HDD is not supported. But it seems like it's only on some models.

Anyway, waiting answer from copierfirmware now.. I don't know if it's your website? There isn't much information about payment options, etc.

The SST is just the installer program...the firmware files are the "plugins" for that program. I know it's "Clunky" but it works when you've got everything in place. If you have the service manual, make sure you follow the update procedure. It might take longer doing it that way, but it's still going to take less time than having to do it over again!! LOL!

If for some reason you DO need to replace the HDD, Hytec sells compatible ones.

Okay, but a "service tool" should be able to connect anyway, for other tasks. Well we leave it here.

I have the service manual for the machine, and i'll follow their procedures. Waiting to get my firmware right now - Crossing fingers, that nothing else is wrong with the machine.

Hytec? Are they US based, or? The only Hytec I know is for hydraulic components, sold by SPX Flow Tech, etc. Hytec | SPX

Was poking around in the machine today, and i found a USB stick - What purpose does it have? There is no USB posts in the copier..

So, got a firmware from a nice guy - The machine is up running now..
Although i got paper jam errors. (It doesn't even pick up paper, before the jam message appears). I took a look in the service manual, and will check all sensors accordingly.

The USB stick says "IR 3100 Send" on a sticker on the opposite site.

And yeah, SST is indeed clunky to work with. It reminds me of something developed when Win95 was around.

                      Re: IR3100CN - Dead harddisk

The USB stick is an optional extra, it basically gives the machine the "isend" option (scan to email etc)

If the machine is jamming but you find no paper it sounds like the machine is not picking up the paper.

Remove the paper cassette & open the right hand door. Then reach in & you can unclip the 3 feed roller (pick, feed & separation) give the all a clean, anything will do, even WD40 is good! just ensure they are dry before you fit them back.

So, do I have to use the USB stick, after new firmware?

I gave it some "Walzenreiniger" - It seems to work fine. It picks up paper, prints, etc..

However, the colors are faded totally, and the black is not covering the printing area.. (This one is actually quite good - Using the copy function, the upper 5 cm is missing)

                        This is a B/W testprint;

Is the machine noisy around fixing unit...? If the machine has been stopped long time the roller pressure will be flat....

Not noise in my ears - Can you explain, what to do for testing?
