help please narrowing down 03130031-2f13 on ipf 765

I look at these occasionally, but they aren't the main type of machine I work on. I've been doing research here and elsewhere, there is mentioned a list of things it might be, but not really a way to test which is which. Basically after the first print it will say 'filling ink from tank' sometimes for quite a while, then make the next print. It does this between each print, then eventually go into code.
I have so far cleaned the encoder, cleaned & oiled the rail, checked the belt for damage & clean contacts and reseat printhead. I don't have any fancy equipment to check the ribbon cable for cracks or continuity. They said it might be a cutter or main board. I don't have such things lying around and they are kind of expensive just to try out. How would you figure out which one? Additionally what if it might be some kind of ink sensor or pump problem ? Canon is rather vague on all of this. I would be greatly appreciative if there's an expert who could shed light on this dilemma.

I've found that Ink Owl, or other off-brand ink cartridges will cause this issue. The explanation that I got from a trained iPF tech was that the ink cartridge was not properly sealed, and sucks air rather than ink.

The generic providers have become quite tricksy. I had replaced what I thought was all the generic cartridges yet the message remained. The Canon branded cartridges have the word "Canon" embossed in the plastic tank. One of the generic tanks was nearly indistinguishable from the other Canon tanks ... other than lacking the single word "Canon". =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      Hi,

      2f13.JPG

If the device does print before the error comes back up, the manual suggests something other than Main Controller.

In my experience i have found that if everything else suggested in the manual is working..ie, ribbon cable, encoder, carriage drive motor...etc,
you are left with pretty much two options, 1. Main Controller PCB and 2. Carriage Relay PCB

And from those two options it will most likely be Main Controller, If possible try test with another one before ordering a new board as they can be expensive.

I have found that the IPF Main Controllers are very sensitive to power surges, we send all our new IPF's out with a ups with surge protector, its helped a bit but the boards still go faulty....

If you look closely at the manual at any other error codes, you will most likely always end up with an option of replacing the main controller....

Thank you for replying. I will try the ink carts & see if the cutter is dull. It's the next available thing to try. I don't have any spare boards.
