Is there a definitive answer to screen lock up on ir 3225/3235i?

I have a few customers complaining that the screen locks up and they have to keep shutting it off to get it to work again. This has been a on and off problem with these models for some reason. I had to replace the main controller to get one running and even that eventually did the same thing. Replacing the screen doesn't seem to help. Is it the HD, firmware or something else? I don't know if it's me or the search engine on this site but I never seem to have much luck doing a search here.

Depends what you mean by screen lock up.

There is a known issue with the touch panel not responding, but the hard keys will still work the machine will still print etc.

However if the whole machine stops responding in my experience it is a failing HDD.

The whole machine stops responding. Sometimes if you cancel a print job it keeps saying cancelling and never does until you shut it off.

Classic HDD issue, you could try a format & reload SSW if that doesnt help replace it.

I pulled the hard drive out of a parts machine and will install and upgrade software and see if that takes care of it.

Would a backup of the HDD using the SST save all the scan-to and SMB settings? I've never done it.

                TIA, Hopper

I have had 2. One we swapped machines of same model and it did it. I suspected POE on first one and second one the guy at the fire department where machine was located said he had it (POE). He was going to make a non POE cable and I have not heard back but he was not calling on it, mentioned it happening on service call for something else. POE is power over Ethernet. The guy said it was not suppose to put voltage on the network cable unless device requested it. Seems like that model has had a lot of lock ups I read about on Canon grid. I tried hard drive, control panel, main controller with chips, software and everything else I could think of. Boss and another tech got involved and took out another machine and it did it. They changed to advanced series machine and it does not do it.

Right, Locking up when it is trying to process a print job is what I would call a possible HDD drive problem or failure.

Just sitting there and locking up would lead me in the other directions.
I have used Canon Imagerunner parts for sale. Most are floor model Color and / Advances Imagerunner with some 3025 3235 parts. Several intact machines being parted.

I put in a new hard drive about 3 weeks ago and seemed to have worked up until this week. Any other ideas? Should I have them install new drivers?

Fortunitly I told my customer that I had to blow away all of her user settings and she elected to re-boot it once a week when it happens.

Canon released new Firmware that clearly lists the firmware as a solution for this problem.
