Ghosting a canon hard drive

I was thinking about using Norton Ghost to load a new HDD for the times I didn't have the system software(like last week when I needed to load an Imagepass D1)
It might also help when I want to use a HDD from a source other than Canon.
I could just go to a working machine to upload the working image, then transfer it to the new HDD.
Any thoughts, has anyone tried it?
