    Canon HDD location

I am needing to get some information on hard drive replacement/removal due to security issues. Where are the drives located and what is the best method to remove the drives? I am a technical person, but I just don't have direct access to the machines yet so I am unable to look for myself. Thanks.

It depends on the models that you need to remove it from. If you can list the models it would be easier to advise. We have had the same issue with a couple of accounts, and when we removed the drives to give them to the customer for destruction the customers were responsible for the cost of replacing them on the machines.

Thanks. I meant to put those in on the first post. Models are 2270, 2870, C3220. Thanks again.

I personally am not sure about the 3220 as I do not work on the color machines, but on the 2270 and 2870 they are mounted on the Main Controller which can be assessed by removing the small cover on the back right which is attached with 6 screws. The HDD is mounted with two screws.

Thanks. I should be able to get to the machines tomorrow. I will check the same area on the color machine to start with and I can update this thread of my findings. Maybe somebody else will need to know the same information I needed. Thanks again.

On the iRC3220 the HDD is suspended inside the Main Controller Box by four screws.
The Main Controller Box is the silver box located on the right hand side of the machine(when viewed from the rear).

You do know if you remove the hard drive the machine will not work without it. The hard drive has all of the system software for the machine to operate on it.

Good point Kube...all system software will have to be installed....if you fry a hard drive on your PC you have to re-install operating system. Copier not different
