Yes you can use a standard parallel cable. I have for years. You have to have the right hard drive model are you will get an error. What hard drive are you trying to use? Make, model, size. Do you have the instructions for upgrading the copier which has the instructions you have to follow to install the software. You have to follow them exactly or you will get an error.

Wow! I seem to be in the a very similar situation!! I'm also a PC tech trying to do some copier repair for our Imagerunner 2220n. Our hard drive died before I was able to attempt to make a disk image of it (hoping to avoid trying to format a new drive). I've got a couple of laptop systems that can read the drive but I don't have a service manual or the Canon Service Support Tool software I think I need to get this done. Where can I find that stuff?

          Thanks everyone!

i hate to tell you this but sooner or later you will need to upgrade to the latest sst or you will not be able to flash the newer machines. Iv'e used parallel as well its called biocentronics cable, ieee1284 cable, before I got USB nethawk. For those of you who think sst is a tool to look into the hard drive and see whats in it, you are wrong. it serves a couple of things, and one is to write the operating system to the hard drive. It also automatically partitions it too. You can however see that there is data in the drive, but not see any folders or files, but not by using sst. Also check you ram. if it is bad you will not be able to write to the HDD. If you do not have the printer kit installed and you try and install the N version you will have troubles. If your hard drive is not in the list as pointed out earlier it will not work. If you do not check what type of cable you use as the last thing you check before flashing it, it will change back to biocentronics (parallel), and if you are using nethawk (USB to Parallel)it wont work. it has to say what cable you are using before you press ok to start process.

              HDD for ir 2200

Am using standard parallel cable with 3.22 sst for a long time and it works very well. You can use any brand of HDD also from 5gb and up. If your HDD serial number is not listed in the .ift file under the ir2200 folder/hdformat you will encounter an error. Just edit the .ift file and add your HDD serial and save it.

All IR machines with parallel port is very easy to format even ir 550/600 machines.

Sadly, I never managed to get the SST to format the new HDD no matter WHAT I tried (including both a parallel cable connection and a direct ethernet connection via a crossover cable). Luckily for our office, the old HDD had just a tiny bit of life left in it to run for a very short time so I was able to image the drive using a ATA-6 IDE to USB adapter and a free imaging software package called Self Image. I then just hooked up the new drive to my adapter and shot the image on and everything worked perfectly after that. I'll tell you all that from now on, if we have any office machines that run with internal hard drives (like our 36" HP plotter) we are making disk images of all of them in the event that this happens again!! Thanks to all of you for all your help getting us back up and running again.

                  E602-0003

                  Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and unfortunately also new to everything copier related (new job). Today our iR2200 gave an E602-0003 error, and I was tasked with fixing it. I was able to get it running again by doing a disk check (1+9 at startup), however based on what I've read here I'm afraid it won't last too much longer. Does anyone have a copy of the SST software, or a copy of the iR2200 system software? I know both components are required, but I'd be happy to get any piece of the puzzle at this point. My e-mail is wightlight88@gmail.com

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

And thanks Jon for the image copy idea - I'll give that a try, assuming I can figure out how to get to the HDD and remove it before it craps out.

                  Thanks all.
