    RUI / iR8500 / Network Printing Issues

I am currently beating my head against the wall - please make me stop!

Connecting via web browser to my 8500 the RUI comes up and I'm able to make changes to the copier settings and print documents that are in the mailboxes. I USED to be able to also print via the RUI. But now, the "DIRECT PRINT" button is gone and I don't know why. What setting could I possibly screwed up that removed that as an option?

Now, the only reason I'm even trying to print using the RUI is that I can no longer print via my networked computers. The computers can see the printer and they start to send data to the printer but then I get an error saying that the printer is busy. So I decide to connect my laptop directly to the 8500 using a standard printing cable. Now this is really weird, I print the document from the laptop, the copier lcd panel says "receiving data" "printing" and then its done. The catch is nothing actually prints out! I go to the printer log and it shows the job as complete and "ok".

What the heck is going on?

    Ideas? anyone?

    8500

Is this an N model or a C model connected by a Fieri M!?

Check service mode: Display/Version/ second screen do you have a N chip or C chip.

Oh, BTW you need to connect to the copier directly from a lap top over a cross cable,
    not a standard patch cable.

Did you really print to this machine before? is your driver the correct driver? re-install system software. or have you?
if you have, you have probably done it wrong, and versions of system software do not match rui version, language version. Or it is just corrupt.
re-install the correct version and model, and use the correct drivers, as well as input the correct values in setup of network.

        Boot-ROM is 26.44N

Connecting directly to the copier I tried using a standard Parallel printer cable. It seemed to work just fine except the copier didn't actually print any sheets out - even though it says it did. weird.

Yup. Printed from two different computers. An iMac and a Dell Laptop both connected to the ethernet network. 99% of what I run is off the glass or ADF. I think one of the techs when they were out here updated the copier firmware a while back. I had tried to print some files directly and couldn't do it, I thought that maybe when I updated my iMac OS that something happened and so I just printed out some masters off another printer and then ran via ADF.

Whenever I've had some time I've dived in to troubleshoot this issue but keep going in circles. I suspect that a tech did something that has caused the situation. There have been several problems with them in the past (leaving things unplugged, forgetting screws, breaking parts and telling me it was already broken, or the best one, picking up a paperclip on the bottom of the dev unit because they set it on the floor and then putting it in the machine without checking and putting a nice score in the drum - that was my problem too apparently as they made me pay for the drum!) and as I'm not on a service contract it's a bit expensive to bring them out for every little thing.

May we eliminate something as simple as you are using the wrong driver? Ex: if you load a driver for PS and you do not have that option available, everything will appear to work - but no output.

You should also try connecting directly to the unit using a crossover cable or small hub. Just you and the printer. Check its' IP, check your IP, make sure you are both on the same subnet, delete your existing print driver. Remove the cable, reboot both units, reconnect the cable. Turn off any firewall/anti-virus or other security programs. Reload a fresh/latest downloaded print driver THAT YOU KNOW is supported by your printer. Let the driver search for the unit - the latest drivers will find it. If it doesn't, try to ping the device as it would appear to not be on the same network. If the ping does work, then do a manual install.

Whatever the outcome, find a new tech.

PS driver will still print...emulated unless fiery driver for rip. Sounds like wrong driver to me...machine must have N software and boot rom...ram clear,MMI clear. Sometimes if hits weird page or graphic in document will stop processing...light on machine flashing then stops. Check workstation memory availability also
