For the older machines that didn't support smb v2/3, the special firmware automatically turns on smb v2/3 and turns off smb v1. Note, once special firmware is installed you can not upgrade regular firmware anymore or it will revert back to smb v1.

Do the new firmware versions for those machines automatically come with SMB 2/3 and it just needs to be enabled, or do I still need to download the "special" firmware that needs a code and password like mentioned a few posts above?
Thats a good question. I think so but not sure.

I've been trying not to enable it on my customers computers unless they absolutely must have SMB scanning on an older machine and they know the risk.

Are you absolutely sure SMB 1.0 isn't a problem anymore? That would be great news to customers with older machines!

^^^If you do this, make sure you notify your customer that their computer will be vulnerable to ransomware attacks. Another option would be scan to email or to set up scan with ftp using Filezilla or similar software.
