    Canon IR5185 printing problems

    Hi,
I am new t this forum and I found only this forum for printers.
OK. My office has a Canon IR5185 recently purchased. I am using a 8X11 1/2 paper, I guess, it is called Legal size paper. It is an envelope type paper i.e. half of it is envelope where we send it to people and then they tear a part and seal the other part & send it back to us.
Now the problem is that when I print on it, at some places, the ink gets smeared or it gets smudges. It is not consistent i.e. it does not happen at the same place all the time.
I have tried using the PCL and PS drivers but it does not make any difference.

Any help will be appreciated. If you need any more information, do let me know.

    Thank you in advance.

    8.5 x 11 is letter size
    8.5 x 14 is legal size

Is the toner getting smudged where the paper is double thickness or on folds/glue strips on the envelope?

Are you selecting heavy 1 or 2 from print driver (printing preferences) when your using this type of media.

Color copiers /printers are more sensitive to the environment than BW machines. Any media that is heavier that standard paper should be run as heavy. Also if the paper has a texture it will smudge. For best results, run it thru the sheet by-pass in heavy 1 mode.

          My bad, its 8.5 X 14.
The toner is getting smudged when it is single and double thickness. It does not smudge on the glue strips or folds

SCREWTAPE, ISLAND & CLCCHRIS - Thank you for the reply.
We have tried selecting the heavy 1 and heavy 2 mode in the printing preferences but it does not help.

Please feel free to shoot any suggestions so that I can try it out.
            Again, thank you.

One more thing, when printing any colored pictures, there are white marks or places where there is absolutely no color in the picture and it is not consistent either. I hope you guys understand what I mean.

Check the ITB for bad spots or wrinkles and also the fuser belts.Sounds like it isnt transfering or the fuser is about shot.

For the white spots as Kopytek suggested check the ITB belt and replace components that are within the ITB ass'y. Does this image fault happen on regular LGL paper?

Thanks Kopyrtek & Screwtape. I have no clue what an ITB assembley is and where it is located. I am a comp. tech and not printer tech. I was asked to do a research and find out the problem but I will have other technician look at it and let you guys know. It might take a day or two.
                  Thank you.

sounds like static on the transfer belt, there is a mod for this you'll need a canon tech to fit it for you though
