IR 2318 Service Code not Responding

Hello,
I have a situation on hand with Canon IR 2318 copier. I have an E-0000-0001 and wants to enter into service mode to clear it. However, the key combination of *28* does not send me into the service mode. It rather remain unresponsive. I wish I could get a suggestion from colleagues with similar experiences to get round it.

You may have to enter service mode by Addl func/2 THEN 8/Addl func as opposed to 2&8 at same time

Thank you for the response. I tried that and it did not work. I really don't know what might be the cause. I know some earlier versions of the IR used to have the code entered in succession instead of the 2&8 pressed at the same time.
I'm just wondering what else I have to do or what I have to replace.

You need to replace the fixing film unit to clear the error code.

and clear the counter on the film... but you might as well rebuild replace whole unit.

I will work on that tomorrow and see which of the two options helps.

Even after you fit a new fuser/film you will still need to clear the code in service mode.
