Description: Encoder and wiper blade motor error (support number: 4801)

Causes: the encoder does not detect the windshield wiper moved to the specified position.

Solution: 1 Check if foreign substances such as paper debris adhere to the BLEEDING UNIT. Without foreign substances Go to 2. With foreign substances Remove foreign substances. 2 Execute [DIAGNOSIS> PURGE CHECK> INITIALIZATION CHECK] to check the operation of the purge unit. Correct operation Restart and check the operation again. Improper operation Replace BLEEDING UNIT.

There is a known issue with a plastic tube which moves the wipers inside the purge unit.

You need to replace the purge unit

If the printer is in warranty - you get it for free.

Yes the purge unit has been modded, but I've greased the gears, long worm gear,etc… never had to go back. Everyone eventually does it we find, but greasing seems to take care of it. Canon actually extended warranty to 18 months because of it
