    ir c3100 color alignment

i have a c3100 in the field with almost 260k on the meter. it has started having color alignment issues recently. all of the colors look good except yellow. the yellow is stifting right to left on the page. one copy will look good and the next will have the yellow slightly shifted(around .5 to 1 mm). i replaced the yellow dev. unit with no change in symptoms. what am i missing? i was thinking transfer belt or drum, but would expect the other colors to shift if those had a problem. please help. thanx

be worth having a look at the itb tensioners if one of them break it can lead to reg problems

With the color rego issues on irc3100/3200/4580/6800/IPC1 you'll notice the shift in color always affects yellow as it's the first color laid onto the belt and is noticeable on the Canon color test chart in the colored squares with red or green overlaying yellow.
      The ITB belt IS slipping.
It will have to be removed...wash the drive roller and sub main roller(the two solid rubber rollers) with Citrus oil...if the belt has visible defects then fit a new belt.
As Jim stated...check to see whether the tension roller support legs have snapped on one side.
OCCASIONALLY I've been to a colour machine where the customer has never run an autograd and after running one the rego issue has been resolved.
3100's have this issue due to the frequency of toner dropped from the turret....3200's drums dump once they pass the 200% mark....as do 5180's.
So in short it's usually toner built up INSIDE the belt that causes it to slip.

Pull off the ITB cleaner assembly to see ITB. If it has a wave or ripple in it, like Logonjim said Tension arm is broken...I carry a set with me..they break all the time...usually if belt is slipping you will see all colors misregistering and E-70(i think) errors...ITB home position patch sensor. If tension arm is broke and you don't have one cut a groove in the old one to re-attach the spring to.
