    Canon CLC-3220 Error E000602-402

    Dear all,
I bought one month ago a used copystation named canon clc-3220 with approx. 300.000 copies on it.

The quality of my prints was until last week perfect.
Now I started to have some shadows on the paper background and tried to solve the problem by cleaning the drums.
By the way, I think that the shadows may come from the black drum, however, after 2 system boots it appears now an errorcode you can see above.
After intensive google search it should be an harddrive error.
After hours of trying to find the error I had to give it up. I tried to replace the IDE-Cable, I measured the powercable of the drive. It seems to be all OK.
I already called a Canon Service for help. They only said, that a technician would have to come for replacing the Harddrive.

I'm wondering that a cleaning of drums can cause harddrive errors.

Please, help me, it's my first Canon and I want to solve this problem by myself.

    Best Regards
    Andreas from Austria

you will not be able to fix it yourself you need a software tool to reinstall the canon software that might bring the harddrive back to life if not they'll have to change it, my advise it to save yourself the hassle and pay to get it fixed. cleaning the drums didn't cause the problem just bad luck

Just try diagnose the HDD first by switching the machine ON while pressing the 1 and 9 together. You can see a small white square blinking at the upper left corner. It will fall down like a tetris game then wait until the screen becomes full white and Download Mode come out. It takes about 30 minutes.

If this will not work you have to reformat your HDD using SST.

The 1&9 function is useless in your situation, you would need someone with the right utility, meaning SST and firmware. What i would suggest you do is call canon and see if there is an authorized dealer close by you to help you resolve your issue. Where are you located?

If powered down incorrectly a Canon can kill it's harddrive. Be sure in the future to power down in the correct sequence:

Press and hold On/Off button on Ops panel for 3~4 seconds (or until the screen changes)

          Select Shut down

When prompted switch off the main power switch located on the right rear corner of the machine.

Thank you very much for your replys and good help! Unfortunately I am not in hold of the support-software to reactivate the hard-disc. So I will call a technician now.

Another question: with what kind of paper can I get the best results in printing (glossy, silk coated etc.)?

@Screwtape: I am from Austria, Salzburg (birth place of Mozart).

The 1 & 9 is useless only if the E-code is 602-0001. But if the code is 602-0003 and 602-0004 it is very useful. Just try it first with yourself before you call Canon.

From experience with 602-0402 1&9 did not make a difference, even canon technical support thinks its a waste of time. Today i had a HDD error code 602-0003 and that 1&9 did not do a thing for me, Even as i tried to flash the machine, the firmware was loading on the HDD it pop the E602-0003 in between. You can try it but nine times out of ten it does not help. Why waste 15 to 20 minutes when you should just flash the unit and if that don't work replace the HDD.

But 1 & 9 works 85% for me. I encounter this error everyday. Yesterday I had this error 602-0003 then I used 1 & 9 it didn't work. I reformat the HDD, load system, language and rui but 602-0003 still coming. Then 1 & 9 again and hurrrrahhh...IT WORKS!!!!!

                    Hello again ,

I had called the Canon-Hotline for a service technician, they guaranteed me a technician to come in a fortnight, so I cancelled it and searched for other possibilities to solve this problem by myself and found a way.

My copymashine is working now fine again without any problems!!!

Here are my steps that brought my copystation back to life :

                    Main Power On:
1 second before the error screen appeared I klicked *2*8* at the same time for Service Mode, so could I override the error state.
In the Service Menu I went to the System Options for Harddrive checks and Partition Administration.
My first check was HDCheck - Result - OK!
The second one was to format the Work-Cache Partition, I think, it was "1".
After that I did a restart, that's all...

I want to thank you all for many suggestions that helped me to solve my problem.

                    Andreas
