I work at a printshop that has a Canon Imageprograf W8400 wide-format printer. I recently started getting an error before every print that read "Check printhead" and after reading some forums Online I saw that I could press Online and it would print but then I had to do this after every print. I continued searching online and found a manual with instructions on how to clean the printhead. I did the first step which was to hold down the Information button for more than 3 seconds and it initiated a printhead cleaning function. As it was doing this the machine beeped and now has an error that reads PRINTHEAD ERROR! TURN MACHINE OFF. The manual says to wait for 3 secons and then turn printer on again. If the message appears again I need to contact a service center. The thing is the company that sold us this machine is no longer in business and we can't locate anyone that can service this machine. Is it possible to attempt to fix this manually or to release the printhead somehow to allow me to replace the printhead? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I think it's time to replace the print head, the instructions can be found in the user guide downloadable online. -

The problem was that the printhead was stuck inside the housing and I couldn't get it to come out manually. I wasn't able to get into any of the menu options to service the printhead and have it come out on the track. The only option I had was to turn the machine off. What I was able to do is turn the machine on and as it's doing it's startup routine, wait for the printhead to come out onto the track and then unplug the machine. Now the printhead is out on the track and I have access to it but I need to wait and see if we can even find a printhead for this machine since it's old and parts are hard to find.Comment

you will probably need a cartridge kit and also check the waste ink tank.Comment

I'm not sure what a cartridge kit is, is that a set of new ink cartridges? If so, I have several ink cartridges available, thankfully. I also jsut repleaced the waste bottle about a week ago so I'm good. Thanks for the heads up!Comment
