    Canon laser printers_generally

I'm thinking of a new laser or LED printer for the home office. It should have A4/duplex/LAN/wifi, no multifunction. Or when multifunction, I don't need a fax. The best possible printing at an affordable price, crisp vectors, up to 400-500usd. Can anyone advise what to look for? Is there a visual difference between laser/LED technology?
    What about alternative toners?
I was interested in the Canon i-Sensys LBP663cdw. Does anyone have experience with it?
It has only 600x600dpi, is it enough?

    Thanks for the tips.

It has only 600x600dpi, is it enough? All depends on what quality you expect... what do you want to print? this is an OFFICE quality unit.

What about alternative toners? NEVER esp with color units

Is there a visual difference between laser/LED technology? some led units provide great quality

I find that Brother printers are cheaper to run than say Canon and Xerox or HP's

Most A4 colour laser printers in your price range all produce a similar print quality, perfectly acceptable office colour. The media makes a big difference so spend out on quality paper.

What to look out for when buying a home office printer is the cost of the consumables and, as an end user, can you replace the fuser & transfer units yourself when/if they are needed.

NEVER use compatible toners on a new printer. Maybe in 3-5 years time give them a try you have nothing to loose.

well, you confirm my suspicion, but I would like to see the "quality" visually.
There is no visual comparison on test sites, only pros/cons.
I would really also look at such a Brother or OKI LED.

Once upon a time I remember these comparisons were presented clearly with photo 100% view +enlargement of print examples.
Maybe there is a reason for that...

Ideally you need to find a proper dealer that you can visit in person rather than take a gamble on a boxed printer from a superstore. They will have demo units that you could try and maybe print samples. Some manufacturers in your price range (HP) make printers that require strip down, screwdriver required to remove basic paper jams HP M452 + HPM477 / 479.

yeah, that might be perfect, try printing a few samples from the same image. But I don't know of a single place for multiple manufacturerswith those option (HP/Canon/OKI/Epson...) Perhaps what I wrote before - print samples on the net would suffice. But these are no longer available today.
            Thanks for the response everyone.
