    cannon 2060p

I do not do a lot of Cannons, and do not have a big collection of their service manuals, and am not a dealer so I can not call tech support, but here is the problem. The machine will tell the customer to change the toner, even with a new cartridge in it. If you pull the cartridge out and install it again, the message will clear for a short while, then come back. Remove the cartridge and install and it will clear again. Any ideas? Yes they are using OEM supplies.

May not be much help but:

    1. Make sure they are using the right cartridge - and it is not a remanufactured one.

    2. Check the exp date on the cartridge.

    3. Check to make sure the cartridge contacts are clean (also on the unit).

    4. If they have one - try a different cartridge.

After all that, sounds like the toner hopper may get filled when a cartridge is first inserted, but does not refill. After checking all the connectors I am afraid my next step could be board replacement. (my thought here is the sensor is working because it fills when inserted)

    As I said, SWAG.

Thanks for the reply. I already hit on all those issues with the customer. They had told me that another tech, from a Cannon dealer, told them there was a sensor or contact that he would have to replace. I did not know if this was a common problem with some models.

Toner sensor problems are not common on the 2060 or any Canon fax for that matter.

The only exception is the fax LC9000. There is a mechanical lever operated by the top door that raises the toner sensor to make contact with the bottom of the laser cartridge. Due to some variability in the plastic molding of the lever & covers a few shims are required occasionally to raise the toner sensor slightly higher.

On a humorous note, I had a customer with (6) LC9000's. I was called out (4) times for false add toner indications when a new cartridge had been installed. It turned out that the customer kept installing the same empty cartridge into a different machine each time, as if it might refill itself if inserted into the correct machine. Imbeciles! =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
