    Error E248 Imagerunner advance 4251

I keep getting this error intermittently when power up the machine Sometimes It will clear by powering up with the adf open the scan lamps light up and it powers up and works again.
Has anyone ever seen this happen? I think it might be the CCD unit? Any suggestions? Thanks

Found this on the Canon site: Had a machine that kept popping this code even after replacing the cable, board, and carriage. I ended up performing a RCON Clear and reentering the values for W-PLT-X, W-PLT-Y, and W-PLT-Z. Somehow those values were changed from what was on the barcode label on the copyboard glass. Check to see if those values match what is on the label on the glass.

RCON clear and re-inputting the values did not work. Now instead of intermittently giving the error it always gives it. What is different now is that when i unplug the ADF it it boots up normal and makes copies normal. I tried swapping the ADF and still does the same E-248-001 when the adf is connected. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Solved. I noticed that the values for WHT-PLT-X, WHT-PLT-Y, and WHT-PLT-Z were not staying at the value i was inputing from the barcode label they kept changing back to something else until I input them with the ADF disconnected and rebooted the machine then they stayed the same as the value from the glass. Then I shut down plugged the ADF back in and rebooted and the machine works again with no more E-248 code.
Bobburnsreb you put me on the right track to solving this problem. Thanks again
