    Advantech Controller for iPG780

    *** correction iPF780 ***
Has anyone modified the HDD to SSD (or modify the RAM)?
I assume generic Sata connection and 2.5” bay?
This thing is a colossal piece of garbage for scanning large files (high dpi).

I am considering mirroring the drive and just put a full workstation in its place (if possible).

    A somewhat related fix:
The the last time I looked at it, the HDD was overloaded at 100% usage in task manager at idle with “Service host: local system” being the culprit.
I am not sure which one was the issue or a combination, but I disabled:
    “superfetch” service
    Windows update service
    Windows update orchestrator service
I also temporarily disabled the page file.
The controller is pretty much stock otherwise.

Also, the white spongy feed roller on the scanner is dirty.
I tried isopropyl and some various household cleaners.
The finish seems very delicate and I dont want to damage it with harsher chemicals.
    Suggestions?

If it's the scanner you're hoping to save, these Colortrac scanners were also sold separately for connecting to a standard PC via USB2. All you really need is the scan software. Sorry, I don't have that.

The white reference rollers are scary expensive, but if they haven't gone wrinkly, you can clean they with Zep fast505. Once they've gone wrinkly you won't get a good white shading value, regardless of how clean it is. I changed a set of white reference rollers a few years ago, for that reason.

You might try searching here: SmartWorks Imaging - Colortrac

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

So the white roller tends to gets wrinkly? Does that mean I should consider it a consumable?

The printer/scanner kit came with a usb drive to restore the controller software--I believe its a mirror of the drive. I will have to look for that usb though to verify.

From my cursory research, the colortrac/smartworks has different versions that also allow for above 1200 dpi scanning, but I believe require licensing.
As I discussed before a few times, the scanner is capable of much higher resolutions, but the smartworks software puts a cap at 1200 (which you have to enable every time smartworks restarts).
I have not explored this too much as of yet...

      Side note:
I am not looking for much help on this because I don't think there is anything you can do about it, but the M40 scanner color is way out of whack on this machine.
Especially reds and greens--far too vibrant.
      Is that normal?
Second side note (and long rant): Why and I interested in 1200+ DPI and accurate color?
One of my side hustles is digitally restoring old damaged photos (currently backlogged with ~150 photos--2 jobs).
My flatbed (an ancient Microtek 5600 that came with a free CD-MP3 player lol) finally took a crap on me.
It did an excellent job for what I needed and was 17" and the software didn't limit the resolution.
Anyways, this is somewhat of a relief as I had to vm win2k just to run the contraption.
Unfortunately, the Konica MFPs I have access to (c654s and earlier) only go up to 600 dpi and color is pretty sorry on those too and lots of artifacts.
I'm really disappointed in the quality of the Konica MFP scanners and Colortrak.
I know they aren't meant to be a stand along flatbed, but give me a break.
Hell, I have a Brother MFC-8500 (circa 2001) that will do insane mono resolutions--interpolated--over usb (but I prefer the parallel or COM options :P). Slow as grass growing but very impressive.
I guess if anyone read all that--and inappropriate for this section of the forum--I open to suggestions on 17" flatbeds.

Have you done a calibration? Smartworks has a utility to calibrate the scanner with the included chart. It's $75 for the calibration chart, if you've lost it.

Dirty or damaged white rollers will affect your image quality also. =^..^=
