    c5550 codes E-020-04A9 and E-025-0451

Code changed from e020-0489 to e025-0451. Dens-K is at -3.20. Machine has 332k total and 179k black copies on it. Copies look good (only makes 1 copy, then codes).

Customer had been running 100-150 full coverage 12x18 2 sided that was mostly black. Seems like the black hopper toner replenishment couldn't keep up with usage. I didn't see a way to add toner or, prime the hopper or fill the dev assm like on older machines.

I checked the dev atr connector and all associated connections. Removed and inspected the K dev assm and looked at the K hopper (didn't remove). I didn't see anything that was binding, bad gears or not moving/connected properly.

I'm planning on going back with a K dev assm. I'd rather not have to replace the K hopper if it's not necessary, I've done them before in the c52xx machines and it's a PIA.

Anyone know of any tech pubs or common issues with this? Other suggestions?

Have seen this a few times. Seems Canon do not have an option to manually 'refill' the hopper from say service mode.

To rule out the hopper being at fault do a run of say 50 duplex prints with no coverage (copy a blank sheet) then run gradation adjust & check if the DENS level returns to normal around 0% +1 / - 1

Also updating the firmware may help.

      Couldn’t run 50 copies…error comes back after only 1.

I replaced the black developing assm and so far, that seems to be taking care of it.
